Y/n spent the next few months in the Netherlands after her visit back home. It was such a relief that her trip had been a success and she even managed not to run into Gracie or Mia while there.
More specifically Y/n was in Amsterdam. The company she worked for had a branch here in the Netherlands, which Y/n transfered to, wanting to start working in an office again and to meet more people within the organisation.
She had briefly visited the country when she had just started travelling and now returned again, heavily considering settling down here.
It is an absolutely beautiful country and an amazing place to live. Having been here for 3 months, Y/n decided for sure to settle down here.
And so the house hunt started again. She didn't want anything big or fancy, just something close to the office.
After a few months of house hunting Y/n settled on the perfect place. It was only a 20 minute walk from her job, a 2 bed 2 bath house. Perfect for just her.
---
Y/n pulled open the doors to the venue, slowly stepping inside as she took in the view. It was her works annual Christmas party and the first one she has attended.
It's now been just a little over 2 years since things ended with Gracie and Y/n would like to think that she has finally healed from what happened.
She made the most out of this time, allowing herself to heal and to travel the world. Do things she always wanted to but never had the opportunity.
Now that she settled in Amsterdam she felt a little more complete. She had a place to call home again. She still loved her job and got along so well with the people she worked with.
Y/n was happy to stay single so far but had been thinking about relationships recently. She wasn't going to seek them out, but she won't completely close off to the idea of love anymore either.
Y/n barely took a few steps into the venue before her best friend was at her side, talking excitedly as she pulled her into a hug.
"You're finally here this is gonna be so much fun!" Noa squealed excitedly. "You're awfully excited" Y/n chuckled with a smile. "Where's Daan?" She added.
"Oh he's just in the restroom. Come come." Noa smiles as she interlocks their arms and leads the way. Even in her high heels Noa was still shorter than Y/n.
Daan approached them moments later, smiling brightly as he gave each of them a hug. "Look at you looking all dapper in your tailored suit." Y/n smiled, she had never seen him this dressed up before.
"Thank you. You don't look too bad yourself." He said with a cheeky wink. "Yeah yeah." Y/n smirked. "Didn't bring your hubby?" She added, surprised that he wasn't here.
"Oh he's around here somewhere. Must be getting a drink." Daan replied as he looked around to see if he could spot him.
His husband was very comfortable at these parties now as him and Daan have been married for 10 years already and Daan has been bringing him to these for 8 years.
"Hey gang." Daans husband says as he approaches the group. "Hey Jesse," Y/n says with a smile as they hug.
Y/n, Noa and Daan all got super close at work and then became friends outside of work too. Eventually the 3 of them became inseparable.
That meant they all knew each other and each other's partners so well. They vaguely knew what happened in Y/ns last relationship but she didn't go into much detail when she told them about it.
The 4 of them stayed together for a while as the party started to unfold and more people started to dance after having a few drinks.
Noa excused herself from the group to go call her boyfriend and Dan and Jesse went to dance as Y/n spotted someone she wanted to talk to.
"Y/n," the man said fondly as she approached him. He was the managing director of this branch of the company and technically Y/ns boss, but he never much acted like he was above his employees.
He was a nice and gentle man, always there to help when anyone needed it. "Boss," Y/n said endearingly. "My favourite employee," he laughed before adding a quiet "don't tell anyone."
Y/n chuckled whispering an "of course," with a little wink. He grew fond of Y/n quite quickly after she transferred into his branch. He could tell she was going through something and felt protective of her.
Being twice her age, he kind of felt like a father figure and liked to think Y/n saw him as one. Because no matter the difference in their rank, he will always be there for her or for any employee.
He knew it wasn't traditional to have a personal connection with his employees but it worked for him, and his employees were happy and satisfied in their jobs.
After a few minutes of conversation he paused, "I want you to meet someone." He said, with a small smile on his face as he saw his daughter approach.
"This is my daughter, Zara." The older man smiled as he took his daughters arm gently as she approached.
Y/n looked up in the directions she came and all air left her lungs. It was like a gut punch, leaving her breathless as she admired the woman in front of her.
It took her a few moments to compose herself as she offered her hand. "Y/n" she introduced herself softly as Zara accepted her hand, a soft blush appearing on her cheeks when Y/n kissed her hand in greeting.
The older man smiled to himself. He had an inkling that Y/n would be quite fond of his daughter. She was a beautiful young woman and attracted the attention of many wherever she went.
He had gotten to know Y/n over the year she had worked for him and he knew that she would be a good match for his daughter. There was no one he would rather be with her.
Of course he didn't tell either of them of his intentions. He wanted them to get together naturally. All he could do was introduce them in a completely innocent and neutral way. If it's meant to be, they'll figure it out.
After a few minutes of conversation Noa appeared, "do you mind if I steal her away?" Noa grinned sheepishly at their boss.
He waved them away, "go, go." He said chuckling. Just before Y/n was pulled away, she caught the slight furrow of Zaras eyebrow as her face fell in disappointment.
"Come on, I want to dance" Noa giggled to Y/n as she pulled them onto the dance floor.
The man looked to his daughter, "real shame Noa's boyfriend couldn't make it tonight." He said, making sure that Zara doesn't think that Y/n and Noa are a thing.
A soft smile rose to her lips, but she didn't say anything about it as she changed the subject to something else.
---
Zara was walking through the crowds of people, almost bumping into someone as she looked away for just a second.
She swallowed hard before getting out a soft "hi" when she saw that it was Y/n, as they ended up face to face.
"Hey," Y/n smiled, "care for a dance?" She added, offering her hand. Zara took it with a smile as a new song began and they started dancing together.
They spent a few hours together until the party died down and they found themselves outside the venue.
They were face to face, barely a gap between their lips. Y/n really wanted to close the gap between them after they spent all night flirting, but that was her bosses daughter after all.
She hesitated, but Zara didn't. She pressed their lips together and they melted into the kiss, everything else melted away around them as if they were the only two in the world.
Just from a few hours together, she could tell their chemistry was insane. They were both breathless and smiling when they pulled away.
Zara slowly pulled Y/ns phone out of her pocket, letting face id to unlock it and input her phone number in her contacts.
"Call me." Zara whispered against her good ear as she slipped the phone into Y/ns pocket. She didn't wait for a response as she walked away from Y/n and got into the backseat of a car, her driver pulling away soon after.
Y/n sighed in content, before smiling to herself. She went back into the venue finding her friends to say goodnight before she went home.
