With a proud grin (and some generously splattered zombie blood plastered on my face), I practically skip back to the cell, spinning the keys around my finger.
I notice Leon standing there with his jaw to the floor, aghast. I raise an eyebrow and slow my walking pace.
"What's wrong?" I whisper, lowly. As I come to a halt, I focus away from him, my gaze fixing on the crimescene behind the bars. A mangled mess with an inability to be explained or comprehended lies before me, his sorry brains drying against the walls like paint. The middle wall is broken at the top, looking like blunt force.
"Hey, Leon? Did you see what happened?" I ask, placing a hand on his forearm in an attempt at comfort.
He nods, slowly turning his head in my direction, although his eyes stare at the scene for an extra few moments.
"I don't know what that was. There's a beast in here."Holding back an inappropriate joke, I tilt my head. "What?"
"You see that hole in the wall? A pair of arms forced their way through and fucking squeezed his head off." He recalls the events, letting out an exhale.
"Oh." I slip the key into the lock, twisting it left and listening for the click. I cautiously swing the door open, crouching down by the body. I pick the keycard from his hand, giving it to the cop behind me.
"~~ttsk... kk... ck.... Ben-... c-n you hear me? tskk... kkk... mistakes... kkk... have been made... kkktt... kk..."
I slide the guys walkie-talkie into my hand. Jeez, the audio is shit. In quiet, deep voice, I speak into it in hopes of the terrible audio disguising me.
"This is Ben speaking. I'm sorry, can you elaborate? Over."I wait for a moment.
"Come to...- kkkkt... umbrella. ....kks.... underground. Over."
I stand up, nodding and looking at him. I catch his crystal blue eyes zoned out against mine and give him a little wave in response.
"Earth to Leonardo Da Vinki over here?"His eyes widen and he blinks a little. "Sorry." He gulps, his ears turning a shade of pink.
"We need to get out of here. I know you're tired, but try to stay alert." I command, stepping away. I finally look where I'm going, smacking my face directly into a pair of tits. I yelp, stepping backwards to reveal the hottest woman I may have ever seen.
"Ah! I'm sorry!" The first thing I check is that she's not a zombie, nor has she been infected.
"Well hello to you too?" She raises as eyebrow, crossing her arms.
"Uh... yeah... um..." I turn to Leon, running out of things to say. He's sizing her up, also mildly intimidated.
"What do you want?" He asks, a protective tinge to his voice.
She glances down to the man on the floor. "I had a bone to pick with him." She crosses her arms. "Oh well."
And with that, she's gone just as quick as she arrived, leaving me and the cop in a long silence.
I turn to him, confused. He shrugs, motioning for us to walk on.
"Wait, hold your horses. What's this?" I walk over to a box, opening it up and noticing some electrical components inside. "We need a battery, and I think that'll turn the whole electrical system on. Which means we can actually use the key card."
He squeezes beside me, observing the electrical organs. "Yeah, you're right. But where are we going to find one?"
Well, I don't fucking know, do I!? I know as much as you do!
