chapter fifteen.
it had been a week since sadie and paige broke up. sadie spent the week locked up in her apartment silently hoping that paige would randomly show, but she never did. sadie ignored the messages on her phone from the blondes teammates. she knew she couldn't ignore them forever, because they had grown to become her friends.
sadie was scrolling through her social media avoiding any post that had paige in it. her finger hovered over the messages icon on instagram, once she clicked it one message stood out to her the most. kate martin. sadie knew who she was, how could she not? sadie had seen her around on social media and once in person when she went to a game.
sadie looked at the message, it was simple. but it was a way to come into sadies life. sadie didn't know what to do, should she respond? would she let someone in her life again? call her dramatic if you will.
kate martin
hi
sadie brown
hi kate
kate martin
oh you replied
took you a little, hm?
sadie brown
yeah.. it's been a long week
but im here now soo
kate martin
glad you are.
anyways im not gonna lie
i totally texted you because i found you attractive
and caitlin stole my phone so
sadie brown
mm i see
well tell caitlin her plan worked out
kate martin
nah that'll fill her ego
but next time your in iowa, text me.
sadie brown
mm is this your way of trying to ask me out?
kate martin
did it work?
sadie brown
yes it did martin
kate martin
then yes.
i mean it next time you're here
you and me will do something.
sadie brown
i'll hold you to that.
sadie smiled as her and the iowa star continued to talk. the conversation moved easily, like it was meant to happen. part of sadie did feel bad, her and paige hadn't been broken up for that long. but then again it was just a little date. no harm done, and she wasn't exactly sure when she would be down in Iowa anyways. could be days or months.
a knock being placed at the girls door pulled her out of the trance she was in. she let out a sigh before she made her way towards the door. she looked through the peephole, thankfully she didn't see blonde hair.
a small smile pulled at her lips once she opened the door and saw nika. nika had texted her everyday of the week making sure she was okay, today had been the first day sadie didn't reply to her.
"i was worried. you didn't reply." nika said as she threw her arms up in defense. sadie shook her head slightly as she pulled the girl into a hug.
"how are you doing?" nika asked as she stepped in the girls apartment. sadie trailed behind her after closing the door. sadie let out a sigh once more as she looked at the brunette.
"im doing better. thanks for asking." sadie said with a small smile. nika nodded her head but bit her lip like she was holding back from saying something.
"what is it?" sadie asked looking over at the brunette. nika let out a sigh before speaking.
"she's so stupid. i don't get why she did this. she was just talking to azzi about how glad she was she found you, about how much you meant to her. i don't see how it changed within one day."
sadie looked down at the floor not really knowing what to say. she didn't understand it herself. they were doing so good. she finally found the person who brought the feeling of love back into her. and it all just got took away.
"i don't understand it either. but part of me doesn't want to understand it, id rather just except and do my best to move on with my life. she has other things to focus on, im not waiting around for something that may never come back."
or a person who never come back is what sadie meant by it. nika knew it, the brunette sighed as she looked at the girl.
"i'll be here every step of the way. let's do something, in or out?" nika asked the girl. sadie looked around for a moment trying to gather her thoughts all in one.
"let's go out. ive been in here for a week. i wanna get out." sadie replied with a smile. nika nodded her head with a smile.
the familiar smell of alcohol hit sadies nose once she stepped in the bar behind nika. sadie decided to go out tonight, but she knew what would happen. she would see her. part of her wishes they would cross paths tonight.
"sadie, if you wanna leave at any point you tell me, kay?" nika said as she pulled on the girls arm. sadie nodded, a smile came on her face once she saw kk and the rest of the girls. the same smile dropped as she met eyes with the blonde. she looked normal, they both looked normal.
sadie and nika stepped on the platform that the girls stood on. the tanned girl gave them all hugs and offered small smiles. paige kept her distance the whole night, her eyes found sadie multiple times. she wanted to talk, but how could she? she's the one who ended it, and in her head it made sense, or at least she thought it did.
the sound of buzzing went off two times, it was sadies phone but she had left it unattended on the table when her and nika went to go get drinks. paiges eyes wanted to tear away from the phone, it wasn't hers but something in her told her to look.
kate martin
couldn't go long without saying hi again
so hi
paiges eyes read over the message over and over. her finger allowed her to scroll up and see all the other messages. she was hurt but mostly angry. how could she already find someone? especially kate martin.
"paige why do you have my phone?" sadie asked with a slight tone in her voice. paige said nothing, instead she handed the phone back to the tanned girl and walked away. but before she fully got away she whispered in the girls ear.
" she can't do what i can, brown."
BAD IDEA.
and so it starts..
