Context: This one shot is inspired by a piece done by lenaellsi on tumblr. It flipped a switch in my brain and I just HAD to do something. This can be read as a sequel to my "It's Always Too Late" fic from this same series or as a standalone fic. Italics here will be used for Aziraphale's inner monologue.

Of all the things Aziraphale had expected to happen after going back to Heaven, he certainly hadn't expected to see Crowley Up There again. Especially not like this.

Aziraphale's POV:

The past few weeks had been a blur for Aziraphale. With The Second Coming quickly approaching, he felt as though The Metatron was leading him with a leash from office to office and department to department. On top of that, he was making his own plans, behind everyone's backs, to ruin their attempts to end the world again. It was so much. Too much. He was dying for all of this to end already. Perhaps, once all the stress was gone, he'd start feeling like himself again.

This is ridiculous. I'm an angel. Angels shouldn't stress.

He had also started feeling a bit ill. Which didn't make any sense. He was an angel, for goodness sake! He shouldn't be feeling this way. He'd get constant headaches or start feeling lightheaded. And he could never understand why or how.

The other angels had been whispering for months. Something was brewing. Something big. Something Aziraphale didn't know about. It seemed as though, every single time they noticed Aziraphale was around, they'd shut up about it. It was almost a daily occurrence, at this point.

Even though Aziraphale was Supreme Archangel, no one wanted to tell him what it was. At most, they'd tell him it was a surprise. One he'd be seeing very soon. Aziraphale dreaded that feeling. He wasn't a very big fan of surprises, these days. Unless he was the one planning them.

He started feeling more and more lightheaded as the days went on. And in a strange way, that became a good thing. He almost felt like the lightheadedness made his decision making easier. He wondered why that was. Was it truly getting easier to play along, or was he disassociating so much that he'd barely remember his day? Perhaps supernatural entities had their limits too, and it was the exhaustion finally getting to him.

I still can't let it get the better of me. The plan will work. It has to work.

On the eve of The Second Coming, The Metatron had gone to Aziraphale's office, but he hadn't found him there. Instead, he found him next to their globe. He wasn't looking anywhere in particular. Just staring through it, in deep thought. The Voice Of God escorted him to Heaven's main atrium.

Aziraphale could sense there was something going on. He looked up at the stairs and balconies all around them. They were full to the brim with angels. All of them watching as he and The Metatron made their way to the center of the room. They were met there with Michael, Uriel, Saraqael and Sandalphon, who were waiting for them.

Aziraphale was feeling lightheaded again and his vision started to blur for a moment. Suddenly, he felt a numbness coursing through his whole body. Then, The Metatron began speaking.

"Good evening, everyone. As you know, tomorrow is the big day. After millennia of waiting, we shall finally triumph over Hell and rid them of their miserable existence."

The angels cheered so loud, it almost felt like the whole of Heaven was roaring. It made Aziraphale quite anxious, as well as give him a headache.

Angels should not sound so... bloodthirsty.
