After Vic's death had shaken me, Jaime, and Mike we tried to take our minds off of it by submersing ourselves in the Musical that the school was putting on and our school work. After the funeral Mike and I barely spoke a word to each other but we rarely left each other's sides. It was like Mike and I were connected at the hip, fearing that if we separated for more that ten minutes our mentalities would crack. After losing my father at a young age and then Vic now, I wondered if it was my fault. Like a curse, does everyone die when they're close to me?

I sighed and ran my fingers through my hair. I was in Jaime's room, working on a particularly tough calculus question that neither me nor Jaime had finished in class. It was strange not having Mike right next to me, it was the first time in weeks. Suddenly a memory resurfaced. "Jaime, at the funeral when you said you loved Vic, did you mean it?" I asked, looking up from my paper. Jaime's face went comically red. I would have laughed but lately I could barely remember the meaning of the word happiness.
"Yeah." Jaime replied.
"Are you gay?" I asked curiously.
"No, I've always known I'm straight but there was just something about that boy that pulled me in right from the start. I don't know what it is." He responded awkwardly.
That was the end of the conversation. After Vic's death conversations became rare and quick. Everything had changed, it felt like the domino effect. "I'm going to check and see if Mike is back from the musical try outs. I'll catch you later." I muttered, shoving my calculus work in my bag before walking across the grass to the other block of dorms that contained mine and Mike's.

The curtains were drawn when I entered and Mike wasn't there, he was still at the try-outs, the room was almost completely dark and silent aside from the wind outside that blew through a cracked window. I un gracefully put my bag down and walked over to my bed before laying down and letting the numbness take over and pull me into a deep yet unrestful sleep that took over my body for around 12 hours.
