I hadn't even been at the Royal Maiden for a week when I started making enemies and friends on the ship. My friends were Allistor and Cutter, a man who was skilled with the knives that had his last name as a nickname too. Everyone else on the ship was keeping a distance from me as they saw me one night, after dinner, fighting with swords for the last bottle of rum. Yeah, captain's orders were only five bottles each night. And who got the last bottle? Me, Allistor and Cutter. After my little 'talk' with three men, Allistor was laughing his head off and Cutter comments at how I used my knives for close encounter, he was even amazed at how fast they were going towards the enemy.
Well the enemies I've made in here was only one, Arthur Kirkland. It wasn't that we were trying to kill each other. No, it was just that both of us were captains and we had different opinions at the same things. Of course sleeping at his bed with him next to me, commenting every now and then at how the weather was getting colder by each night, and sharing every last second at the morning, evening and night with him was a torture. Sometimes as he commented my ways of talking, due to my Scottish accent, I made fun of his eyebrows. From the first time we exchanged these sentences("Wow! You sound very weird? And I thought why you always wearing pants. You try to get close to women." and "Do you have berries at your bushes you have as eyebrows?") we were at war, of course with words. Every night and morning it was off as we were resting.
I was never going to ask him for help, and I never thought I would but that took a very long time. As the days were passing by, one day, when Allistor was at the deck bellow and Cutter at the crow's nest, I had nothing to do, only looking at the captain's red coat going where the air was blowing.
"Want something, Scar?" Arthur's voice got me back to reality as he realized I was looking at him.
"Stop calling me Scar, you caterpillar-eyebrows!" I barked back. He had cut my name in two to annoy me as much as it could. And believe me, this made me very angry.
Doesn't he have anything in common with Allistor? Anything? Even the slightest? God Arthur can be a pain in the arse. I thought and sighed as I walked away from him. He just shut his mouth as he saw me leaving, he might have been speaking but who paid attention to him?
Arthur reminds me a little of Edward.
It didn't take much time for Kirkland to follow me, being right behind me, copying every move I was making. I went straight to the ship's chef. "Hey, I'm so sorry for interrupting your job, but do you mind giving me a bottle of rum?" I asked nicely, not trying to play tricks or make a prank. He just stood there thinking about it, one of his hands were at his chin skeptically. "I can help you with the food, cleaning the kitchen and the nights plates tomorrow. Deal?" Then I got my hand out waiting for him to seal the deal. And so he did. He smiled and shook my hand.
Arthur was behind the door hearing everything, as I made the deal with the man and took the bottle and walked outside of the kitchen and went straight at the wheel to sit down and watch the sun that was setting. As I got up there I found it kind of beautiful. Even though I was all my years at the sea, I rarely had time to think about it and observe it. The sky was painted orange and made me remember how much I missed James. Every time he was leaving or was coming back at the port, I always looked at the sunset to see if I was able to spot the Pearl.
I was thinking of the past as someone joined me and said as gently as the air was passing by. "Isn't it beautiful? The way the sky is painted?"
I turned my head and looked at Arthur's green orbs. "Yeah it is. It kinda of reminds me my town where I grew up and my family you know."
"Your family? You have a family?" Arthur asked kind of surprised. Then I noticed his bottle at his hand.
"No, I had. What about you? Do you have? Except from Allistor of course." I asked as I flashed a smile and drank from the bottle.
