HASHIMOTO POV

Me {The men's restroom on the second floor of Keyaki Mall wasn't my first choice for a meeting place, but sometimes you have to sacrifice comfort for discretion. At 11:30 AM, it was practically deserted—just as I'd hoped. Leaning casually against the tiled wall, I waited for my guests to arrive. The first was Ryuuen Kakeru, the infamous tyrant who had clawed his way back to the top. I could hear the steady, confident sound of his footsteps before he appeared. His sharp, almost predatory grin greeted me as he stepped into view}

Ryuuen [So? What kind of prank are you trying to pull on me, calling me out here?]

Me {Ryuuen's voice carried that mocking edge I'd expected. His black eyes burned with the same ruthless energy that had catapulted him and his class to the top. I gave him a polite smile, raising my hands in mock surrender}

Me [Calling it a prank doesn't sound very good, now does it? I just wanted to summarize what happened this year.]

Me {Ryuuen snorted and leaned against the opposite wall, crossing his arms}

Ryuuen [Summarize, huh? You mean the part where Class A ate dirt and got knocked down to Class B?]

Me {His grin widened, like a wolf ready to pounce}

Ryuuen [Gotta admit, it was fun to watch. And I didn't even have to lift a single finger]

Me {I ignored the jab. Provocation was just part of Ryuuen's nature, and biting back would only waste my energy}

Me [Say what you will, but it's all about what happens next year, right? Besides, you didn't exactly sit back and relax this year, either.]

Me {At that moment, Kanzaki Ryūji, the leader of Class D, walked in. Kanzaki was the picture of quiet resolve—reserved, calculating, and always guarded. He shot me a quick, suspicious glance, his brow furrowing slightly as he closed the door behind him. Kanzaki wasn't like the rest of his bubbly, overly friendly classmates. That's what made him perfect for this little discussion}

Kanzaki [Hashimoto, Ryuuen]

Me {He greeted us, his tone clipped and formal}

Me [Kanzaki. Thanks for coming. I figured it'd be good for all of us to exchange a few words—leaders to leaders.]

Ryuuen [Leaders? Don't make me laugh, you are not a leader, that crippled loli is more of a leader than you]

Me [Touché,]

Me {I said, my tone light, though the comment stung}

Me [But I'm not here to dwell on the past. I just thought it'd be useful to discuss the future. Besides, Ryuuen, from what I hear, you've been making quite the comeback.]

Me {Ryuuen's grin sharpened}

Ryuuen [If you're talking about crushing Class D in the Event Selection Exam, it was nothing special. Just a whim.]

Me [A whim, huh? Well, if that's what you call a whim, then it's a frightening one. Defeating Class D like that must've sent quite the message to the other classes.]

Me {Kanzaki shifted slightly, his arms crossed tightly over his chest}

Kanzaki [I know what you did Ryuuen, I wouldn't expect less. But Ichinose-san was the commander for that exam so I couldn't really do much]

Me {He said, his tone clipped. His gaze flicked toward Ryuuen, his posture stiff with unease. Kanzaki was a far cry from the carefree attitude of the rest of his classmates. He was defensive, suspicious—a lone wolf in a pack of sheep}
