Leo nodded, his head lowered, a mixture of emotions crossing his face. He wasn't sure how he could ever repay her for this, but he was determined to at least try.
He wasn't the man he had been before, not anymore—not after everything that had happened. But maybe, just maybe, he could find a way to make things right.
Selene turned to leave, but before she walked away, she gave him one last glance. "I'll check in on you later. Don't screw this up, Leo."
And with that, she walked away, leaving Leo alone in the room, his mind racing with the weight of the second chance she had given him.
For the first time in a long while, he felt something other than anger and regret—he felt the faintest flicker of hope.
As Selene left the floor, she couldn't help but wonder if this was the right move.
But she had made her decision, and now it was up to Leo to decide whether or not he was worthy of the chance she had given him.
Selene pushed the door to her suite open, the soft creak barely audible.
She stepped inside quietly, her sharp instincts making her movements near-silent.
She had intended to check in on Ayla, maybe share a drink or just relax after the exhausting day. But as she closed the door behind her, she froze for a moment.
The soft light of the room spilled across the bed, and there Ayla was, her bare back to the door, her skin glowing under the warm light.
Her hair cascaded over her shoulders, and she seemed unaware of Selene's presence, humming a soft tune as she reached for something on the bedside table.
Selene felt her breath hitch—she hadn't expected this.
She could feel her pulse quicken, but she stayed composed, leaning against the doorframe as she took a moment to collect herself.
"Should I announce myself, or are you planning to stay like that all night?" Selene finally said, her voice low and teasing.
Ayla gasped, immediately reaching for the sheet to cover herself, whipping around with wide eyes. "Selene! What—what are you doing sneaking in like that?"
Selene smirked, stepping further into the room, her hands casually tucked into the pockets of her sweatpants. "I live here, remember? Besides, I didn't sneak in. You left the door unlocked. What if it had been someone else?"
Ayla's cheeks flushed, though whether from embarrassment or irritation was hard to tell.
She clutched the sheet tighter around her, glaring at Selene. "Maybe I thought I'd have a moment to myself without you barging in."
Selene chuckled, sitting on the edge of a nearby chair, her eyes sparkling with amusement. "If you wanted privacy, little fox, you could've locked the door. But I have to admit, this is quite the view to come home to."
"Stop calling me that!" Ayla snapped, though her voice was more flustered than angry.
She turned away slightly, trying to gather her composure. "And you could at least pretend to be embarrassed!"
Selene raised an eyebrow, her smirk never fading. "Embarrassed? Why would I be embarrassed? You're the one who forgot to lock the door, love."
Ayla huffed, trying to hide the small smile that tugged at her lips. "Fine, you win. Can you at least turn around so I can get dressed?"
Selene held up her hands in mock surrender, turning her chair to face the other direction. "Alright, alright. I'll behave—for now. But you might want to work on your modesty if we're going to keep living together."
