You're Done

Leo stepped closer to his parents, his voice steady but filled with quiet fury. "This is the last time you'll hurt anyone. You're done."

Selene nodded toward the guards waiting by the door. "Take them to the basement. Make sure they can't leave. We'll decide what to do with them later."

As Ezra and Miriam were dragged away, Leo slumped into a chair, his head in his hands.

Ayla knelt beside him, wrapping an arm around his shoulders. Selene stood silently, her fists clenched, already planning their next move.

As Selene hung up, she turned back to Ayla and Leo, her expression sharp but her tone measured.

"Now we wait," Selene said, slipping her phone into her pocket. "Agent Carter will do his part—assuming he's not another snake in the system."

Ayla crossed her arms, concern etched on her face. "Do you really think they'll act on this? What if they bury it to protect themselves?"

Selene shrugged, her smirk returning. "If they do, I'll make sure the whole world knows. Carter's no saint, but he's got a reputation to protect. The last thing he'll want is for this to go public under his watch."

Leo, leaning against the wall with a haunted look, finally spoke.

"Do you think they'll come for us now? Ezra and Miriam—they won't just sit back and wait to be taken down."

"They won't have time," Selene replied firmly. "If the task force moves quickly, those traitors won't even see it coming."

She glanced at Leo, her voice softening slightly. "But if they try... we'll be ready."

Ayla stepped closer to Selene, her brow furrowed. "And what about Amos? If your parents really are alive, if everything we've uncovered leads back to them—"

Selene held up a hand to stop her. "One step at a time, little fox. Let's handle the Harkins and their cronies first. Then we'll deal with the ghosts of my past."

Leo hesitated, then asked quietly, "Do you think... do you think my parents ever cared? Even a little?"

Selene's gaze softened, and for a moment, her tough exterior cracked. "Leo, they abandoned you to save themselves. Whatever love they might have had for you was buried under their greed and fear. You deserved better."

Ayla placed a comforting hand on Leo's shoulder. "But you're here now. You've survived everything they put you through, and now you're making things right. That's what matters."

Leo nodded, though his eyes glistened with unshed tears. "I just... I just wish it didn't have to be this way."

Selene's voice turned steely again. "Sometimes, we don't get to choose the battles we fight. But we do choose how we finish them. And I promise you, Leo, they won't win."

Ayla nodded in agreement. "We've come this far together. We're not backing down now."

Selene looked between Ayla and Leo, her smirk returning faintly. "Then let's make sure this ends the way we want it to—on our terms."

Selene's arm slid around Leo's shoulders, pulling him into a side hug. The weight of the past was heavy on his frame, but in that moment, Selene's presence was a grounding force, a reminder that he didn't have to carry it alone.

"Hey," she said softly, her voice almost gentle for once. "You've already come this far. What you've been through—it's not your fault. And we're going to make sure no one forgets that."

Leo swallowed hard, his voice thick with emotion as he replied, "I just don't know if I can ever forgive them... for what they did to me, to us. I never asked for any of this."
