The dagger's blade gleams under the soft chandelier light as she presses it firmly against his throat, her movements calculated and effortlessly commanding.
Ayla gasps, instinctively stepping forward, but Selene throws her a glance that stops her in her tracks.
"Selene," Leo begins, his voice calm despite the blade at his neck, though his jaw tightens. "This is a bit dramatic, even for you."
"Dramatic?" Selene hisses, leaning in closer, her dark eyes blazing with fury. "No, Leo. This is me being merciful. Because if I wanted to, you'd already be bleeding out on this marble floor."
Leo's smirk falters, and for the first time, a flicker of unease crosses his face. "Careful, Selene. There are consequences for—"
"Enough!" she snaps, the sharp edge of her voice cutting through his words. "I'm done with your games. I'm done with your veiled threats. And I'm certainly done with you targeting Ayla."
Ayla's breath catches as Selene's voice softens, but the venom in her tone remains. "You're going to call off your task force, Leo. You're going to erase every trace of her name from your files. And if you so much as think about coming near her again..." She presses the dagger slightly closer, a thin red line appearing on his neck. "I'll make sure you regret ever crossing me."
Leo stares at her, his confidence shaken but not entirely gone. "You think this changes anything?" he asks, his voice low. "I'm not the only one involved in this."
"I don't care," Selene retorts, her voice like ice. "I'll deal with whoever I have to. But you? You're going to start by standing down."
There's a beat of silence, the only sound the faint hum of tension in the air. Finally, Leo exhales and raises his hands slightly in a gesture of surrender. "Alright," he says, his voice measured. "I'll make some calls. But Selene..." He meets her gaze with a faint, bitter smile.
"You've made your choice. Don't expect me to clean up your mess when this blows up in your face." Selene smirks, a dangerous gleam in her eyes. "I don't need your help, Leo. I never have."
She steps back, releasing him abruptly and twirling the dagger in her hand with practiced ease before sliding it back into its sheath.
Without sparing him another glance, she turns to Ayla, her expression softening slightly as she extends a hand.
"Let's go," Selene says simply, her voice steady.
Ayla hesitates for a moment, glancing between the two of them before taking Selene's hand. As they walk out of the room, Ayla whispers, "That was... intense."
As Selene and Ayla move toward the door, the tension behind them snaps like a coiled spring. Leo lunges forward, his smirk replaced by a fierce scowl.
In a flash, he grabs a letter opener from a nearby desk and charges at Selene.
Selene spins around just in time, her reflexes sharp as a blade.
She blocks his strike with her forearm, the metal edge glancing off her sleeve. "Really, Leo?" she snaps, her voice dripping with disdain. "You never learn, do you?"
Leo doesn't respond, his eyes blazing with fury as he presses the attack. Selene counters with calculated precision, slipping out her dagger once more.
The sound of steel meeting steel rings through the room as they clash.
Leo is strong, but Selene's speed and skill give her the edge.
She ducks under a wild swing and retaliates with a sharp kick to his side, sending him stumbling backward.
Ayla watches in stunned silence, her heart pounding as the fight unfolds. Selene moves like a predator, each motion fluid and deliberate, while Leo fights with raw aggression, his frustration evident in every swing.
