As they made their escape, Selene glanced back, the adrenaline still pumping through her veins. She knew they had survived this round, but the war was far from over.

And somewhere, lurking in the shadows, their enemies were already planning their next move.

As Selene and Amos made their way toward the exit, the sound of footsteps behind them grew louder.

Someone was closing in, and Selene's instincts kicked in. Her hand shot to the pistol holstered at her side.

Without hesitation, she spun around, scanning the shadows that lined the hallway.

A figure appeared, a silhouette against the dim light. Selene's eyes locked onto them—too close for comfort.

Without a moment's pause, Selene raised her gun and fired.

The sound of the shot echoed through the warehouse, a sharp crack that cut through the tension in the air.

The figure fell to the ground with a muffled thud, blood pooling around them.

She stood still for a moment, her breath steady, her heart pounding, waiting for any signs of movement. But there was no need to take another shot.

 The threat had been neutralised.

"Keep moving," she said, her voice cold and composed. Amos didn't need to be told twice. They had no time to waste.

Amos shot her a grateful glance before continuing forward, but Selene's mind was already racing. She had just made a calculated kill. It wasn't personal; it was necessary.

As they reached the exit and the gunfire outside subsided, Selene quickly assessed the situation. Her backup had secured the perimeter, and Victor was already helping to escort them toward safety.

"Let's go," she said, grabbing Amos's arm and pulling him toward the waiting SUV. The air was thick with the scent of gunpowder, and the faint sound of sirens in the distance signalled the aftermath of the fight.

They were alive. For now.

As they climbed into the vehicle, Selene looked out of the rearview mirror, her mind focused on the road ahead.

The battle may have been won, but the war was far from over.

And she wasn't going to stop until Amos, Ayla, and everyone she cared about was safe.

Amos pulled Selene into a hug, his arms trembling slightly as he held her close.

It was as if, despite the bloodshed and betrayal, they had become tied by fate in a way he couldn't explain.

Selene froze at first, not expecting the sudden gesture.

Her body tensed instinctively, years of hardened survival kicking in, but then something inside her shifted.

She didn't push him away. Instead, she allowed herself a breath, letting the moment settle around them.

She could feel the warmth of his body, the tension he still carried, and it made her realise how fragile this whole situation had been.

"I didn't think... I didn't think I'd make it out of there," Amos whispered into her hair, his voice strained. "I don't know how to thank you. I never thought anyone would care enough to help me—let alone save me."

Selene stayed silent for a beat, feeling the weight of his words.

She could have responded in a hundred different ways, but instead, she just pulled him a little tighter, offering comfort through the quiet embrace.
