But there was no going back. Amos was no longer the person she had once known.
The man who had been a guiding light for her was now a shadow, and she had to decide whether she could live with that or if she would have to confront him in order to stop the chaos he had created.
Ayla sat, her mind wandering back to the time before everything had spiralled out of control. It was because of Amos that she had chosen this path. He had always been the one to encourage her to see the world differently, to question everything, to uncover the truth—even when it was painful.
As a child, Ayla had often sat in the quiet corners of their home, listening to Amos share his thoughts on justice, truth, and the importance of standing up for what was right.
He had been the one who sparked her desire to uncover the stories that others were too afraid to tell. He had seen something in her that no one else had, a drive to seek out the truth no matter the cost.
Amos had been the one to show her that a journalist's role wasn't just about reporting the news—it was about revealing the lies, exposing the darkness that lurked in the corners of society, and fighting for the voiceless. It was his belief in her, his guidance, that had set her on the path she now walked, and every success she had achieved as a journalist, every story she had uncovered, had been because of him.
But now, that same man was a threat, a symbol of all the pain and destruction that had been unleashed.
The very person who had inspired her to seek the truth was now the one who had caused so much suffering.
Ayla struggled to reconcile the two sides of Amos—the mentor who had shaped her into who she was and the man who had become a monster.
She felt torn, conflicted between the man she had once known and the cold reality of who he had become.
But even in the midst of the pain and betrayal, Ayla couldn't deny that her passion for uncovering the truth had come from him. And that truth—no matter how painful it was—was something she had to face.
It was a painful realisation, but it was the truth.
She couldn't allow herself to be blinded by the past. The world she had fought for as a journalist was at risk, and she couldn't let her connection to Amos cloud her judgment. She would have to confront him, no matter how much it hurt.
Ayla couldn't keep the truth inside any longer. The weight of the secret had become unbearable, and she knew that if she didn't share it with Selene now, it would tear her apart from the inside.
She found Selene in their shared living room, standing by the window, her expression unreadable as she gazed out at the city.
Ayla took a deep breath, her hands trembling slightly.
She had to do this.
"Selene..." her voice cracked as she spoke her name. Selene turned around, her eyes immediately softening as she saw the distress on Ayla's face. She walked over, concern written all over her features.
"Darling, what's wrong? You look like you're carrying the weight of the world."
Ayla swallowed hard, her throat tight as the words threatened to spill out.
She looked at Selene, and for the first time, she didn't know where to begin. She had always kept her past hidden, always shielded the pain of her childhood from Selene.
But now, she had to let it go.
Taking a shaky breath, Ayla began, her words tumbling out in a rush.
"It's him. Amos Novak. He's my brother," she said, the shock of her own admission hitting her like a physical blow. She looked at Selene, tears welling up in her eyes. "He's the one who taught me everything... about justice, about fighting for the truth. He's the reason I became a journalist. He was my mentor, my guide, and now he's the one who's caused all of this... all this pain, all this destruction."
