Prompt: Reece makes burgers for his girls.
The house was a mess, but they were making progress. Olive was scrubbing the living room windows while Marjorie tackled the pile of laundry that had been threatening to spill over the hamper for days. Reece was mopping the kitchen floor with the dramatic flair of someone who wanted everyone to notice his hard work.
“I’m just saying,” Reece called out from the kitchen, his voice slightly muffled over the sound of the mop hitting the tiles, “this whole ‘deep-cleaning-the-house’ idea was great in theory, but I’m starving.”
Marjorie, hauling a basket of folded towels, poked her head into the kitchen. “We’ve been at this for hours. Let’s just order in something easy.”
Reece perked up immediately, leaning the mop against the counter. “Now that’s what I’m talking about. I’ll find something we all like.”
He pulled out his phone and began scrolling through food delivery options as Marjorie joined him, peeking over his shoulder. Olive wandered in a moment later, still drying her hands on a dish towel.
“Alright, what are we thinking?” Reece asked, scrolling through menus. “Pizza?”
“Too greasy,” Olive said, wrinkling her nose.
“Sushi?” Marjorie suggested, smiling hopefully.
“Too raw,” Olive countered.
“Indian food?” Reece asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Too spicy,” Olive and Marjorie said in unison, then glanced at each other and burst out laughing.
Reece groaned, dragging a hand down his face. “You two are impossible. Everything either costs an arm and a leg or gets vetoed. I give up.”
Olive smirked, crossing her arms. “Then why don’t we just make something ourselves?”
“Like what?” Marjorie asked, skeptical.
“Burgers,” Olive said simply, shrugging. “We’ve got some basics here, and we can grab whatever we’re missing from the store. It’ll be cheaper and way better than arguing over takeout.”
Reece raised an eyebrow at her, clearly weighing the idea. “You know… that’s not bad.”
Marjorie looked between them, her expression somewhere between amused and resigned. “Fine. But I’m not cooking. You know how that always ends.”
“That’s a given, darling,” Reece teased, leaning in to press a quick kiss to her forehead before grabbing his keys. “Olive, you keep tidying up. Marjorie, you’re coming with me to grab supplies.”
Marjorie groaned but followed him toward the door. “Why do I have to come? Can’t I just supervise?”
“Nope. You’re coming for moral support.”
As they left, Olive shook her head, laughing softly to herself as she returned to cleaning. “I’ll have the house spotless by the time you get back,” she called after them.
By the time they returned, arms full of bags and bantering like always, the house was gleaming, and the kitchen was prepped for the burger feast to come.
