—Y/N POV
As I silently ate my cereal, the footsteps approaching the dining room echoed louder in the silent penthouse, I didn't look up, I didn't have to as I already knew it was Jungkook
"Good morning" he greeted, his voice casual, like nothing had happened, I didn't bother to look up to meet his eyes, my response was curt, barely audible "Morning"
He sat across from me, his expression calm, almost carefree. But the sight of him there acting so normal, ignited a quiet fury inside me. He didn't seem to realize, or maybe he didn't care, that he had shattered my trust not once, not twice, but three times in a single night
I glared at him as I chewed, the spoon pausing halfway to my mouth, did he really think I wouldn't notice? That I wouldn't know? After all the warnings I'd given him, he had still gone looking for the book after I had fallen asleep, or better after my soul left my body
I warned him, I told him not to think about it, not to touch it, not to let it consume him but he didn't listen
Not that it mattered anymore, he could look for it until he was blue in the face, he'd never find it anymore now, I had hidden it away, sealed it somewhere no one except me could go
The room was quiet except for the clinking of my spoon against the bowl and the faint sound of Jungkook tapping his fingers on the table sipping in his coffee
Suddenly he cleared his throat, his voice breaking the silence "Y/N, are you okay?" I snapped my head up, finally meeting his gaze, his wide, doe-like eyes looked concerned, but I couldn't tell if it was genuine or just guilt masked as care
"Do I look okay to you?" I asked, my tone sharp, his brows furrowed, and he leaned forward slightly "I... I know you're upset, but—" "Upset?" I cut him off, my voice rising slightly "Upset doesn't even begin to cover it, Jungkook... I trusted you, I told you to leave it alone! Do you have any idea what you're doing?"
His lips parted as if to respond, but no words came out. He looked down, his fingers fidgeting nervously "I was trying to help" he finally muttered, his voice barely above a whisper
"Help?" I repeated, incredulous "How is ignoring every warning I gave you helping? Do you even understand the kind of danger you've put yourself, put us in?" He opened his mouth again, but I didn't let him speak "You don't know what that book is, Jungkook," I continued, my voice trembling with anger. "You don't know what it's capable of. And you don't know what it's already done to us."
He looked up at me then, his expression unreadable. For a moment, I thought he might finally apologize, that he might finally understand. But instead, he said softly "Then tell me"
I sighed, my chest tightening "Tell me what it's done... Tell me why you're so afraid of it!" he almost pleaded "Y/N, I... I just want to understand. You keep saying it's dangerous, but you won't tell me why! How am I supposed to leave it alone when you won't trust me enough to explain?"
I swallowed hard, my throat dry. He didn't understand because I hadn't told him everything, not the whole truth, anyway
But how could I? How could I tell him that the book wasn't just dangerous? How could I tell him the book was alive? How could I tell him it wasn't a book from earth but hell and I'm the princess of hell?
My hands trembled as I pushed the bowl of cereal aside "You don't need to understand" I said finally, my voice barely audible yet firm "You just need to trust me... I'll tell you when it's time"
"Y/N—"
"No" I snapped, cutting him off "This isn't a negotiation, Jungkook. Ask your friend if he's okay after reading the book, he didn't even make it halfway through before getting scared as soon as the symbols started glowing, he thought a devil had appeared and then suggested the book to you saying it calls nearby devil" I paused for a moment and looked up at him "I've already hidden the book, and that's the end of it. Don't ask me where it is. Don't ask me to explain! Just... drop it!"
