As the night approaches I found myself sitting on the garden bench, with Jungkook sitting just beside me, his gaze fixed on the sky ahea
"I just feel like... he was scared before he died" he muttered, more to himself than to me "Like he knew something was coming for him"
I forced a small smile, my hand moving to gently squeeze his "Sometimes fear is just a natural response to facing the unknown" I said softly, masking my inner turmoil "Don't let it haunt you, Jungkook"
But his sharp gaze shifted to me, his brows furrowing slightly "You seem awfully calm about all this..." he said, his tone laced with suspicion "I mean... I getit, why you wouldn't feel much for him after everything, but you're too... composed? Almost like you knew this was coming"
I could feel my chest tightened at his words, though I kept my expression steady "I've seen death before, Jungkook" I replied evenly "It's not something I fear or let consume me. But that doesn't mean I don't understand what you're feeling"
He tilted his head, trying to study me in a way that made my skin prickle "Do you? Understand what I'm feeling?" "Of course" I said, my voice softening "He was still your father, Jungkook. And no matter what, losing a parent leaves a void"
His eyes lingered on mine for a moment too long, as if he was searching for cracks in my facade. I held my breath, willing him to look away. Finally, he sighed and nodded, turning his gaze back to the sky
"I guess you're right..." he murmured, though his tone suggested he wasn't fully convinced
As silence settled between us, I felt the weight of his growing suspicions. Jungkook wasn't a total fool. If I wasn't careful, he would start piecing things together sooner than I could control
But there was no turning back now. Mr. Jeon was gone, and my actions had set things in motion that couldn't be undone
I looked at Jungkook, his features hardened by grief and doubt. For a fleeting moment, I considered telling him the truth, confessing everything and letting him decide whether to stand by me or turn against me, but then I thought of the consequences. The secrets I carried weren't just mine, they were bound to the lives of others, to a world he couldn't begin to understand
"Let's go back inside" I said, my voice firm but gentle "Your family needs you right now"
Jungkook hesitated, his eyes meeting mine once more "And what about you?" he asked quietly "What about me?" I replied, a faint smile tugging at my lips "Don't you need me?" he pressed, his gaze searching
The question caught me off guard, and for a moment, I couldn't find the words. Did I need him? Yes I need, more than I cared to admit, but needing him also meant risking everything
"I'll be fine" I said, forcing a reassuring smile "Right now, let's focus on you"
He studied me for another long moment before nodding "Alright" he said, though his tone was heavy with unspoken questions
As we walked back into the mansion, I could feel the weight of his suspicion following me like a shadow, and I knew, deep down, that this was only the beginning
As days passed, life in the house gradually returned to their routine. Everyone immersed themselves in their own work, burying the grief deep within. They knew holding onto it would only cause more pain, and life demands to move forward... that's just how the world works
Yet, as the days blurred together, my mind kept drifting back to that night. His frightened eyes, desperately trying to look brave, his screams when I took his life, and his final words 'Your mother didn't just die during childbirth. It wasn't fate or some cruel twist of destiny... She was killed... because of you'
