Chapter Twenty Three

—Y/N POV

"You must push him away"

My caregiver's last warning echoed in my mind, looping over and over since the moment I left her to... die

I still couldn't believe, the King would kill her because of me

But it just proved one thing, he was always a step ahead. He knew my every move. He was watching me, even when I thought I had concealed myself behind the strongest shield I could summon

And it also meant something far worse. The shield I had placed around Jungkook meant nothing to him. If he wanted to, he could break through it. He could reach Jungkook whenever he pleased

And I had no idea how to stop him...

I didn't want to imagine what would happen when the King finally broke through that barrier. My curse, the King, and everything tied to me would come crashing down on Jungkook like an unstoppable storm. And once that happened... the consequences would be unimaginable...

A shiver ran down my spine at the thought only

'What should I do? How do I stop this? Was divorce truly the only way? Would he leave Jungkook alone if I severed my ties with him?'

The questions circled in my head, but there were no answers...

But one thing I knew, I needed to go to the Celestial Realm. I needed to awaken my Celestial powers. I needed to kill the King as soon as possible

And to stop him for now, I had to break Jungkook's heart...

I had to destroy everything between us, to save him...

I sighed

Taking a deep breath, I stepped into the Lee mansion, my home

The sun had barely risen, casting a soft golden glow over the quiet neighborhood. The streets were nearly empty, a rare moment of peace before the world fully woke

I wasn't ready to face Jungkook yet, not after everything, so I had come here instead of going back to the penthouse we shared...

"Y/N?"

I nearly jumped at the sudden voice. I had assumed everyone was still asleep. But there, standing in the kitchen was Hee-Won, my sister-in-law

"Oh... good morning, unnie" I greeted, forcing a smile but she returned it with a much more genuine one "Good morning! You're here this early? I wasn't expecting you today"

I shifted slightly, the awkward smile still on my face "I-I came to talk with Appa and Oppa. Are they awake yet?"

"They're probably getting ready for the office. Come, sit. They'll be down soon" she said, gesturing to the dining table

I nodded, sitting down quietly while she continued preparing breakfast with the help of a maid

"How's Jungkook?" she asked casually "You two are doing well, right?"

For a moment, I didn't know how to answer, so I simply nodded

She hummed, seemingly satisfied, but I hesitated before speaking again

"Unnie... can I ask you something?"

She glanced at me and nodded instantly "Of course"

I swallowed "Do you think Oppa hates me because he wants to?"

For a moment, her hand stilled on the spatula as she fully turned to look at me now

"Y/N..." She exhaled slowly, as if choosing her words carefully "It's complicated... He doesn't hate you, but... at the same time, he does"
