—Y/N POV
The air felt thick as I walked to my classroom in the morning, the weight of the King's warning, hidden truths, and unanswered questions swirling in my mind, nearly suffocating me. I needed clarity, but every step seemed to sink me deeper into uncertainty
As I rounded the corridor, I spotted Ji-Yeong standing near the classroom, his expression calm yet wary as he casually chatted with a group of students
Without a word or glance at him, I walked past into the classroom to take my seat quietly. The room was empty as it was still early for classes to begin
"Y/N?" Ji-Yeong's soft voice broke the silence. I looked up to see him walking toward me, his eyes filled with quiet concern. He stopped in front of me and leaning on the wall beside
"Are you okay? You seemed troubled during the council meeting yesterday. Is everything alright?"
I hesitated, glancing around to ensure we were alone "Can I... trust you? You're not just a fellow demon but also my brother-in-law here on Earth. So... can I?" I asked "Yes, you can, Princess" he replied immediately without any hesitation, his tone steady and reassuring
I let out a shaky sigh, finally allowing my thoughts to spill "They've been hiding something big from me all these years, but now, I know the truth" I confessed "The book dedicated to me in the ancient library, has no record of my mother. It's as if she never existed"
Ji-Yeong's expression darkened "That's... unusual. Every prince or princess has their full lineage recorded in their book. How could your mother's history be missing?"
"Exactly!" I snapped, anger boiling over "They have erased her existence because they don't want me to know the truth... they don't want me to know I'm different and more powerful than anyone else, Ji-Yeong. My mother was different, she's not from Earth, nor from the Devil World... She's from the Celestial Realm"
Ji-Yeong's eyes widened in shock, but before he could respond, the classroom door creaked open, and Rowan strolled in, his usual smug grin plastered across his face
"Well, isn't this cozy?" he drawled, his eyes gleaming with mischief as he glanced between us "The princess and her loyal servant, plotting secrets in the dark. Should I be jealous?"
I shot him a sharp glare "What do you want, Rowan? I'm not in the mood for your nonsense"
His grin widened as he leaned against the door frame, his posture casual yet dripping with mockery "Oh, I don't know. Maybe I'm just curious. You've been so... interesting lately, Y/N. Breaking rules, hiding things, making Ji-Yeong follow you around like a little puppy" His tone dripped with envy, his curse bleeding into every word
"Watch it!" Ji-Yeong warned, stepping slightly in front of me, his stance protective
"Relax, brother" Rowan sneered, emphasizing the word with venom "I'm just here to remind our dear princess that the walls have ears. People talk, and if they find out just how deep her secrets run..." "That's enough!" I snapped, my voice cutting through the tension "If you don't have anything useful to say, leave!"
Rowan's grin faltered for a moment, envy flashing in his eyes. But then he shrugged, pushing off the wall "As you say! But don't say I didn't warn you. And remember, the higher you climb, Y/N, the harder you fall"
With that, he sauntered out, leaving an uncomfortable silence in his wake
Ji-Yeong turned to me, his brow furrowed in concern "He's right about that, princess. We all can guess you're planning to walk in a dangerous line. And hyung—" "I'll handle Jungkook" I interrupted sharply, though the words tasted like a lie "I'll handle everything..."
