Prerna's POV
"When will they come?" Dipti asked impatiently for the fourth time.
"They’ll come. Be patient," Sanskar Bhaiya replied with the same answer again, his tone calm.
Shobhit Jija ji had gone to bring the baby, and ever since, everyone had been on edge, waiting restlessly in anticipation to see the little princess.
"It didn’t take bhaiya this long to make the baby as it’s taking to bring her here," Dipti muttered, her arms crossed.
She dropped onto one of the couches in the other half of the room where Naina was admitted.
I chuckled at her impatience. What can I say about her when I was just as eager to catch a glimpse of the baby myself?
I just hope she is healthy.
Naina, sitting upright in the hospital bed, gestured for me to come closer.
"Tie my hair," she said simply, her voice low and tired.
I nodded, stepping over to her side. I carefully braided her hair and tied it, making sure it wasn’t too tight before she tugged at my arm, pulling me down to sit beside her.
"I’m already exhausted just from the pregnancy," she sighed, shaking her head as she leaned back.
I handed her a glass of water, watching her sip slowly.
"What will happen next? How will I manage and take care of such a tiny little life?" she asked, her tone light, but I knew better.
Beneath her playful words were the fears she hadn’t fully voiced.
"You’re not alone," I told her softly, my voice barely above a whisper so only she could hear.
"We’re all here with you. And when the baby gets too troublesome, just hand her over to someone at home. Simple," I added, trying to ease the tension in her shoulders.
"I’ll hand her to Sanskar Bhai. He was the most excited one about the baby after Shobhit," she said, catching me completely off guard.
"Really?" I asked, eyebrows raised as I turned to glance at Sanskar bhaiya.
He sat on one of the chairs, casually playing Ludo on his phone with Dipti and Sarthak, his focus unbothered.
The image didn’t match the man I remembered when we first found out about Naina’s pregnancy. Back then, he’d sat in the backyard with his head in his hands, looking like instead of pregnancy, Naina had announced the end of this world.
Judging him by his everlasting neutral expressions, he didn’t seem like someone who could be excited about anything.
"Really," Naina repeated, her voice firm as if she knew exactly what I was thinking.
I raised an eyebrow, waiting for her to explain.
"When I was pregnant, he used to call me every single day to check on my health. And if I ever missed his call, he’d immediately call Shobhit," she said with a sigh, like it was the most natural thing in the world.
"Every day?" I asked, my surprise evident.
Sanskar Bhaiya is thoughtful and caring, sure, but this? This wasn’t like him.
He wasn’t one to make calls or send texts regularly, no matter how much he cared about someone.
Birthdays or special occasions, maybe. On a normal day? Forget it.
Only God knows if he even remembers to talk to his girlfriend regularly or not.
Shortly after, Shobhit Jija Ji entered the room, carrying a tiny little bundle of joy in his arms.
