A cloud of smoke floated around me, heavy like the air wasn't even movin'.
I sank deeper into the couch, tryna find a groove, but Karrizma's knee kept bumpin' mine. On purpose. I peeped it but ain't say nothin.
Yet.
She always doin' some slick shit.
Lorriel stomped in from the kitchen, headphones on, actin' like she ain't see nobody. Typical.
"Stinkabutttt" I called, sittin' up just enough to throw a pillow at her.
"You tryna hop on this game or you scared?" Karrizma asks her, looking away from the TV screen.
She bought her ps5 here, since she's always here anyway.
She pulled one ear off and hit her with a side-eye. "Who scared? I will cook yo ass in any game, don't play."
Karrizma laughed, low and cocky. "Nigga in what universe?"
Lorriel smirked, droppin' into the arm of the couch. "A'ight, load it up. Don't cry when I start winnin', though."
I just shook my head at them both, they be talking too each other like they the same age.
Karrizma just smiled back, all teeth, actin' like she ain't worried. That's how she always was too damn sure of herself.
My phone started buzzin'. I looked down and saw Momma flashin' across the screen. My stomach dropped a little. I already knew what this was about.
"Hold up," I muttered, standin' up and answerin'. "Ma?"
Her face popped up, brows already knit like she could smell the weed through the screen. "Leeanna, what's that in the background? You better not be smokin' in that apartment."
"Ma, chill." I rolled my eyes, tryna keep it cool even though Karrizma and Lorriel was both listenin'. "Ain't nobody smokin'. That's incense."
"Incense, my ass." She squinted, leanin' in closer to the camera like she could see more if she tried hard enough. "If I find out you lyin', I'm showin' up unannounced. Don't play with me."
Karrizma leaned over, whisperin', "Yeah, don't play wit ha."
I elbowed her, smilin' even though I wanted to cuss her out. "Ma, I'm good. I swear."
"Mmhm." She wasn't convinced, but she let it go. "And call your sister. She been askin' about you."
"Mommy, Sanaa is old enough to call me on her own. Lorriel is here too by the way." I turned the camera toward Lorriel, who threw up a peace sign like she innocent.
Mom squinted again but nodded. "A'ight. Keep an eye on each other. And don't let nobody have you out here actin' crazy."
"Love you too, Ma." I hung up quick before she could say more, floppin' back down on the couch.
