Two days later, it was finally time for the Hassaikai meeting. Hitori met up with Kirishima outside the dorm to head to the station together. They started walking down the sidewalk, but a voice calling out made them pause and turn around.
"Oh, hey, Midoriya!" Kirishima said. "Are you heading out to your work-study too?"
"Yeah!" Midoriya said. "It's my first day back after a while, and they said I don't need my costume."
Huh. So, he doesn't know?
The front door opened again, revealing Uraraka and Tsuyu.
"Good morning, you guys!" Uraraka said cheerily. "You're headed out too?"
"Yeah! What a coincidence!" Kirishima said. "We were just about to head to the station!"
"The station?!" A hero exclaimed, coming out of nowhere. "I'll take you guys there!"
"Thank you!"
Hitori's classmates started whispering in confusion. None of them had any idea what was going on, but she had her suspicions.
They slowly started putting the pieces together when they all got on the same train. Everyone except for Midoriya was getting on a different train than normal. They all got off at the same station and walked through the city together. Eventually, they met up with the Big Three outside an office building. The group of students took the elevator to the seventh floor and went through a set of double doors into a room filled with heroes.
"Gran Torino?! And Mr. Aizawa?!" Midoriya exclaimed. "There're so many heroes, what's this about?!"
"Hey, hey, hey!" Nejire Hado exclaimed, throwing herself at Ryuku. "What're we doing here?! I know you said something about a meeting, but what is it?!"
"You'll find out soon," Ryuku said. She gently pushed Hado off of her.
The rest of the group split off to meet up with their mentors, leaving Hitori alone near the door. She stayed where she was, waiting for her hero partner to come up to her. Edgeshot had not told her who it was. He had only told her that he had arranged for her to work with the person he felt would be the best fit. But she figured it out pretty quickly when she saw who was walking toward her.
"Should I even be surprised?" Hitori asked sarcastically.
"Drop the attitude," Aizawa said. "You're lucky to be on this mission. Don't screw it up by being rude."
"Yeah, whatever." Hitori rolled her eyes. "Edgeshot seriously thinks I need a babysitter?"
"Is that what you think this is?"
"Why else would he have asked you?"
Aizawa sighed. "You're going into a situation that is similar to the one that you suffered in as a child. We understand why you want to be involved, but it is a very high-stress situation. We thought it best if you were working with someone already familiar with your abilities and fighting style. It's one less thing for you to be concerned about. You must go into this with as clear a head as possible."
Hitori frowned in annoyance. From an unbiased perspective, his reasoning made perfect sense. Had it been any other situation, she likely would've known that. This was a high-stakes mission after all. Not realizing that and having to be told put her emotions on blast. Clearly, she was not in the right mindset for this.
"Okay, I get it," Hitori grumbled. She crossed her arms and sighed. "Good morning, Mr. Aizawa. Thanks for accepting Edgeshot's request."
"Good morning." His glare softened slightly. "Call me Eraser Head for this. I'm not your teacher, I'm your hero partner. And I believe that means treating you as a hero and not a student for this mission."
