Hitori followed the sounds of a battle to the center of the cityscape. She flew up to the top of a building and looked down. Over a hundred students were locked in combat below her. They threw balls back and forth, occasionally lighting up a target. None of her classmates were there though. She knelt down and started coming up with a plan.

No one's noticed me up here. I bet I can sneak in and take a couple of people out.

She was surprised to see that she was the only one on a roof above the battlefield. Most students were in the main square. Two were in the alleyway to her right, poking their heads out and trying to tag people who ran by. There was a fence in the middle of the alley, effectively blocking their backs from attack. Unless someone was able to fly or come from behind them without making a sound.

The speakers suddenly crackled to life.

"Ugh, the event's at a stalemate," Mera complained. "Not a single examinee has passed yet. Oh, right. I guess I should let you know that I'll be doing play-by-play announcements from the broadcast booth."

No one, huh?

Given that most people were throwing indiscriminately, it wasn't a huge surprise. It didn't seem like anyone was truly aiming for a target. Instead, they were just hoping to hit one. But they were creating so much chaos in the process, Hitori couldn't get a clean shot on anyone. Not even the people in the alleyway.

"Damn," she said.

Hitori stood up and stepped onto her earthboard. It floated into the air and moved to the alleyway. She silently floated down to the ground in front of the fence. Her footsteps were silent as she crept up behind the two students.

The ground suddenly shook beneath her feet, as if there had been an earthquake in the distance.

"What was that?" One of the students asked in a worried voice.

"Don't know, don't care!" The other one said. "Come on, we still haven't gotten anyone!"

The way one of them was standing put two of his targets on display. One was on his ribcage, the other on the front of his hip. Hitori pulled out two balls and used air to float them up in front of her. She made finger guns with both hands and pointed them at the targets. Just before he went to throw another ball, she fired.

Clink clink!

The two targets lit up. The boy looked down in shock, then turned and looked at Hitori just as she was pulling out another ball.

"Hey, we got company!" The boy said. His friend spun to face Hitori.

"Come on, get with the program," Mera yawned. "Does anyone actually feel like passing the test today?"

Hitori fired a third time and hit the other boy's target on his chest.

Clink!

The two boys launched their quirks at Hitori. One shot a huge spiderweb from his palm, and the other's fingers extended into whips and lashed toward her.

Hitori punched the air in front of her, and a blast of fire incinerated the spiderweb. The other kid managed to pull his finger whips away before they were seriously burned. The motion exposed his third target on the other side of his ribcage. She pulled out a fourth ball and shot.

Clink!

The glancing blow was just enough to light up his target.

"Dammit!" He yelled.

Hitori punched the air again to burn another spiderweb that was sent flying her way. Just before she pulled out another ball, wind started whipping around them. The balls in the boys' hands floated upward, sliding out of their grip like they had been buttered.
