That afternoon, Hitori found herself in Recovery Girl's office sitting across from the old lady and Midnight.
"How are you feeling today, Hitori?" Midnight asked.
"Like this is a waste of time."
"Hitori," Recovery Girl chided.
"It's okay," Midnight said, waving a hand. "I want authentic answers, even if you're angry. I know I wasn't part of the original plan, and I'm sure you're upset about that."
"I'm being forced to do this, so I don't care," Hitori snapped.
"What do you mean you're being forced?" Midnight asked.
"Aizawa said we can't use the field unless I go to this stupid meeting."
"We?"
"Bakugo and I," Hitori said in annoyance.
"Ah, that makes sense. Aizawa threatened you." Midnight shook her head. "I understand why you're angry about that."
"Tch," Hitori sneered.
"You and Bakugo are pretty close, right?"
"Yeah? What's it matter?"
"Well, you stayed with him for most of the summer after the incident, right?"
Hitori furrowed her eyebrows. "Yeah."
"Would you say you trust him?"
"Obviously. Going through a life or death situation with somebody kinda does that to you."
"Not necessarily. At least, not every time." Midnight smiled slightly. "Who was the first person you trusted here?"
"Bakugo," Hitori said quietly.
"When did you start trusting him?"
"After the sports festival."
"Hmm, so a while ago. I thought I saw a spark between you two at the end of your match."
"There wasn't a spark," Hitori said defensively. "It was just the first time we really respected each other."
Midnight raised an eyebrow. "Whatever you say. Why do you trust him?"
"He's a bad liar and keeps his word."
"Is that the only reason?"
Hitori hesitated, then sighed. "No."
"What else?"
"I like sparring with him."
"Why do you like him?"
"I said sparring with him!"
"Oh Hitori," Midnight smiled. "I can tell you like him. You like being around him. Otherwise you wouldn't have willingly spent three weeks with him and his family."
Hitori felt her face burning. "Why do you wanna know?"
"I'm curious, but I do have a reason. I'll tell you why after you tell me."
"Fine." Hitori huffed and looked at the ground. "Bakugo's an asshole and pisses me off sometimes. But he respects me. He's predictable, honest, and kind in his own way. He gives a shit about me and proves it over and over again."
"He sounds like a good friend to have."
"Yeah." Hitori glared at her. "So why do you wanna know?"
"Because I want to understand you. You just told me the main qualities that you look for in another person. The criteria that you judge a person on."
