The sun was setting over Los Angeles, casting a warm golden glow over the city as Tim Bradford stood in front of the Mid-Wilshire Police Station. His uniform was perfectly crisp, his badge gleaming as always, but there was something different in the air today. He could feel it. The anticipation. The change.
It had been a few months since Lucy had joined the force, and their partnership had been everything he'd hoped for. She was sharp, driven, and eager to learn, and working alongside her had been both challenging and rewarding. But today, Tim was standing on the cusp of something new—a promotion.
Tim had always been a dedicated officer, never one for the spotlight. But when the call came for him to move up to Metro, he couldn't help but feel a sense of pride. It was an opportunity to take on a new challenge. It wasn't detective work, but he'd always been content with patrol. Still, he couldn't deny the pull of something greater. It was a natural progression, something he had worked hard for—and now, it was finally happening.
His phone buzzed in his pocket, and he pulled it out to see a message from Lucy. A smile tugged at his lips as he read it:
L: "How's your first day in Metro going?"
Tim chuckled to himself before typing a quick reply:
T: "Getting used to the change. Not as much detective work, but it's a step up. How's everything on your end?"
He waited a moment for her reply, knowing she was probably in the middle of a shift or training. Ever since Lucy's graduation, she had been moving fast through her career. With her dedication and skill, it was only a matter of time before she'd be on her way to bigger things herself.
Just as he was about to pocket his phone, the door to the station opened, and Sergeant Grey walked out, giving him a nod of approval. Tim had always respected the seasoned officer, and now, as he prepared to transition to Metro, Grey's words carried even more weight.
"You ready for this?" Sergeant Grey asked, his tone steady but with a hint of warmth.
Tim gave a small smile, adjusting his uniform. "As ready as I'll ever be."
Grey chuckled, clapping him on the back. "Good. You've earned this. Don't forget, it's a whole new world in Metro. Keep your head on straight, and you'll do just fine."
Tim nodded, his gaze drifting back to the station's entrance. "Thanks, Sergeant. I appreciate everything."
Before Grey could respond, Tim's phone buzzed again, and he quickly checked the message from Lucy:
L: "You deserve it, Tim. I knew you'd get there."
Tim smiled at her words. He was lucky to have someone like Lucy in his life—someone who always believed in him, even when he had his doubts.
With a deep breath, Tim looked one last time at the Mid-Wilshire Police Station. It had been his home for so long, and it would always hold a special place in his heart. But now, the next chapter of his career awaited.
"Guess this is it," Tim muttered to himself, before walking toward the door, ready to begin his new assignment in Metro.
Lucy sat at her desk, sorting through some paperwork and reviewing the case files she had been working on. Her shift was slow that day, and she found herself drifting between thoughts of her own progress and her feelings about Tim's promotion. He had worked so hard to get to this point, and she couldn't help but feel proud of him.
She had seen the dedication he had for his work, and even though their partnership on the streets was strong, this was a new chapter for him. One where he would be able to focus on higher-level work, handling more intense situations, and having a broader impact on the city.
