The evening was quiet, the kind of calm that only came after a long day of work. Lucy had just returned home after another exhausting shift, her mind still whirling with the events of the day. The station had been busy, and even though she'd managed to keep it all together, her thoughts kept drifting back to Tim. Her feelings for him had only grown stronger, and yet, there was still that lingering uncertainty—would it work? Would he feel the same way?

She pushed those thoughts aside as she opened the door to her apartment. The smell of home greeted her—freshly brewed coffee, the faint scent of flowers from the vase on the kitchen table, and something else that made her heart skip a beat. She saw Tim standing in her living room, pacing a little. He turned when he heard her enter, a serious look on his face. Lucy felt a flutter in her chest at the sight of him.

"Hey, Tim," she said, her voice soft but tinged with curiosity. She closed the door behind her, setting her bag down on the couch. "What's going on?"

Tim met her gaze, his expression more serious than usual. He took a deep breath before stepping forward.

"Hey, I need to ask you something," he said, his voice steady, but there was a glint in his eyes that made Lucy's heart beat a little faster.

She tilted her head, sensing the weight of his words. "What's up?"

Tim paced for a moment before stopping in front of her. He looked at her, the words clearly weighing on his mind, and Lucy couldn't help but feel a shift in the air between them. Whatever he was about to say, it was important.

"Do you want a job?" he asked, his eyes searching hers, as if looking for something in her reaction.

Lucy blinked, a little thrown off by the question. "I have a job, Tim," she said, a small laugh escaping her lips. "You know that."

Tim took another step closer, a sheepish smile creeping onto his face. "That's not what I meant." He paused, gathering his thoughts before continuing. "I meant—well, I need to be clear about something."

Lucy furrowed her brow, trying to understand what he was getting at. "What do you mean, Tim? Just... tell me."

Tim took a deep breath, his gaze never leaving hers. There was something in his eyes, something that told her this was more than just a casual conversation. "I like you, Lucy," he began, his voice low and sincere. "No, wait. I—" He stopped himself, his chest rising as he exhaled, as though he had been holding this in for a long time. "I love you, Lucy. I love you."

The words hung in the air, and for a moment, Lucy didn't know how to respond. Her heart raced, her mind spinning with what Tim had just said. She had always felt something for him, something deep and real, but to hear him say those words out loud, so openly, made her pulse quicken.

"Uh-huh. What else?" she said, trying to keep her composure, though a smile tugged at the corner of her lips. She could feel the weight of his confession, but she also felt something stir inside her—something she had been holding back.

Tim, clearly a little nervous, stepped closer, his eyes locked onto hers. "I love your smile," he said, his voice gentle but filled with emotion. "I love your personality, everything about you." He paused, his expression softening. "But I wasn't just talking about feelings... I was thinking about something more permanent."

Lucy raised an eyebrow, intrigued but also a little uncertain. "Uh-huh..." she murmured, unsure of where he was going with this. "The job? A babysitter again?" She couldn't help the teasing tone that slipped into her voice.

Tim chuckled softly, but there was no mistaking the seriousness in his eyes. "I was looking for something more permanent than that," he said, his words slow and deliberate. He took another step closer, his hand gently brushing against hers. "Maybe... my girlfriend?"

Lucy blinked, the words hitting her like a wave. Her heart fluttered in her chest, and she felt a warmth spread through her, but she couldn't let him off the hook that easily.

"Hm... I don't know," she said, pretending to consider it, though she could feel the excitement bubbling beneath her calm exterior. "Maybe you gotta show me the pros of it first."

Tim smiled, a twinkle in his eye. "Oh, I think I can do that," he said with a quiet intensity.

Without another word, he stepped forward, closing the space between them. His hands cupped her face, his thumb brushing gently against her cheek. Lucy's breath caught in her throat as she felt the pull of his gaze, the connection between them so strong, so undeniable. And then, as if the world had shifted into a perfect moment, Tim leaned in, his lips capturing hers in a kiss that was soft at first, hesitant, as if they were both waiting for the other to make the first move.

But then, it deepened, the kiss becoming more passionate, more urgent, as if they had both been holding back for too long. The world around them seemed to disappear as they lost themselves in each other. Lucy's heart raced, and she wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him closer. Tim responded in kind, his hands moving to her back, pressing her body against his.

When they finally pulled away, both of them breathless, Tim rested his forehead against hers, his hands still holding her close.

"I'll show you the pros, Lucy," he whispered, his voice low and full of promise.

Lucy smiled, her chest rising and falling with each breath. "I think you already have," she said softly, her voice filled with affection.

Before Tim could respond, a loud voice interrupted them from the hallway.

"YAYYY!" Emma's voice rang out. "Lucie is my mommy!"

Tim and Lucy both froze, pulling apart slightly to look toward the hallway. There, standing in the doorway with a huge grin on her face, was Emma, her little hands clapping in excitement.

Lucy's eyes widened, and she couldn't help but laugh, her heart swelling with affection. "Emma!" she said, stepping away from Tim to kneel down to Emma's level. "What did you say, sweetheart?"

Emma beamed, her face glowing with excitement. "Lucie is my mommy! Daddy said you were my mommy now!"

Tim's face went bright red, and he rubbed the back of his neck nervously. "Well, uh... I might have said that, yeah..."

Lucy's heart skipped a beat at Emma's words, the weight of them settling over her like a blanket. This was real. This wasn't just about Tim and her—it was about their future, about Emma too. And in that moment, everything felt right.

She looked up at Tim, her eyes soft and full of love. "I think I'm ready, Tim," she said, her voice steady but filled with emotion. "I think I'm ready to be your girlfriend. And... Emma's mom."

Tim's face broke into a smile, pure joy lighting up his features. "You have no idea how happy that makes me," he said, his voice thick with emotion.

Emma squealed in delight, running toward Lucy and wrapping her little arms around her. "Lucie, you're my mommy! Yay!"

Lucy laughed, feeling a warmth in her chest that she couldn't explain. She hugged Emma tightly, then looked up at Tim, who was watching them with the most adoring expression she had ever seen.

"I love you, Lucy," Tim said again, his voice filled with emotion.

Lucy smiled, her heart full. "I love you too, Tim."

And for the first time in a long time, she felt like everything in her life was falling into place. She wasn't just Tim's partner—she was his girlfriend, she was Emma's mom, and she was ready for whatever came next.

Together, they were a family.
