The morning sun filtered through the living room windows, casting a warm glow over the Bradford household. The day was unusually still, yet Lucy's nerves were anything but calm. Today was the day she would find out if her application to the police academy had been approved.

Despite her best efforts to distract herself, she couldn't shake the anxious energy buzzing through her. Her stomach churned as she paced the living room, glancing at the clock every few seconds.

"Lucie, sit down!" Emma's giggle broke through her thoughts as the little girl perched on the couch, her tiny hands clutching Kojo's collar. "Kojo says you're making him dizzy!"

Lucy let out a nervous laugh, stopping mid-pace to ruffle Emma's hair. "Sorry, Em. I'm just really nervous."

Tim walked in from the kitchen, holding two mugs of coffee. He handed one to Lucy and gave her a reassuring smile. "Relax. You've got this. They'd be crazy not to accept you."

"I don't know, Tim," Lucy replied, sinking onto the couch beside Emma. She cradled the mug in her hands, staring into the steam as if it held the answer she was waiting for. "What if they don't? What if they think I'm not cut out for it?"

Tim sat beside her, his tone firm but kind. "Lucy, you're one of the most capable, determined people I've ever met. If they don't see that, it's their loss. But trust me, they will."

Emma chimed in with a big smile. "You're the best, Lucie! They're gonna say yes!"

Lucy couldn't help but smile at the little girl's unwavering confidence. "Thanks, Em. You're the best cheerleader ever."

Kojo barked as if in agreement, his tail wagging furiously.

The moment was interrupted by the ping of Lucy's phone. Her heart leapt into her throat as she realized it was the email she'd been waiting for.

"It's here," she whispered, her voice barely audible.

Tim leaned forward, his expression both encouraging and calm. "Go on, open it."

Emma bounced on the couch, excitement radiating from her. "Do it, Lucie! Do it!"

Lucy hesitated for a moment, her fingers trembling as she unlocked her phone. She opened the email app, and there it was—an email from the academy.

Her breath caught as she clicked it open. The words at the top of the email seemed to blur together for a moment before they came into focus.

"Dear Ms. Chen, we are pleased to inform you..."

Lucy gasped, her eyes widening. "I got in!" she exclaimed, her voice breaking with emotion.

Emma let out a squeal of delight, throwing her arms around Lucy. "I knew it! I knew it!"

Tim's face broke into a proud smile as he pulled Lucy into a tight hug. "I told you," he said softly. "You earned this, Lucy. I'm so proud of you."

Kojo barked again, running in circles around the living room as if he understood the significance of the moment.

Lucy felt tears prick her eyes as she hugged Tim and Emma, the reality of her acceptance sinking in. This was it—the start of a new chapter in her life.

"Thank you," she whispered, her voice thick with emotion. "Thank you for believing in me."

Emma pulled back, her face shining with excitement. "Does this mean you're gonna be a real-life hero like Daddy?"

Lucy laughed, brushing a tear from her cheek. "I'll do my best, Em. But no matter what, I'll always be here for you."

Tim's voice was filled with pride as he spoke. "You're going to be amazing, Lucy. The academy is lucky to have you."

For the rest of the day, the house was filled with laughter and celebration. Emma insisted on making a "Congratulations, Lucie" card with Tim's help, complete with glitter and drawings of stick-figure versions of Lucy, Tim, Emma, and Kojo.

As the evening settled in, Lucy found herself reflecting on the journey that had brought her to this moment. It hadn't been easy, but with Tim and Emma by her side, she had found the strength to take this step.

Later, as Emma dozed off on the couch with Kojo curled up at her feet, Lucy looked over at Tim. "Thank you for everything, Tim. I wouldn't have made it this far without you."

Tim shook his head, his eyes warm and steady. "You would've, Lucy. But I'm glad I get to be here with you."

She smiled, her heart full. This was just the beginning, but with the people she loved by her side, she knew she could face whatever came next.
