Elijah was standing leaning on the railing of the stairs overlooking the compound courtyard.. Immersed in yesterday's unfortunate events.. Yesterday they lost Finn as a result of Lucian's bite.. The scoundrel was hiding his vile intentions behind the image of a loyal ally.. But he was allied from the beginning with the Ancestors to destroy his family.. He saw Niklaus heading to the compound gate.. He asked him with interest "Niklaus where are you going? Lucian might be outside waiting for any of us to leave"
Klaus turned to his brother and said calmly, not feeling a bit of it "I'm going to see Camille.. I need to make sure she's okay"
Elijah sighed and answered in a calm voice "You won't find her, Camille has left the city"
Klaus felt a sharp pain in his chest.. He didn't just need to know she is okay, but he needed to see her.. Just seeing her is enough to remove his distress and give him the clarity to think with a balanced mind.. He asked quietly "When?"
Elijah answered him sympathetically, knowing what was going on in his brother's mind "A few days ago... It seems life here has become difficult for her, so she decided to leave... She left you a letter... Wait for me here"
After seconds of anxious waiting from Klaus, Elijah returned carrying an elegantly folded paper in his hand... Klaus took it from him with a hand he tried to hide its trembling... What words could she have left for him after their last conversation, which was somewhat of a breakup!! He took a deep breath and opened the letter that surprised him:
💌I don't mean it.. I swear.. I'm shattered with sharp pieces scattered all over my life and you can see it in my eyes.. But please, my love, let me be strong all on my own.. I can't fall into you entirely and I need you to understand why.. I must know that I'm capable, that I'm able to stand on my own without you, without falling apart💌

Klaus' heart thumped violently.. Here she was writing him a direct letter without boring introductions.. Telling him what his intuition had been repeating to him in the past days.. He couldn't believe what she had told him in church.. He couldn't believe that her feelings towards him had changed so simply.. But he didn't understand her reasons and he didn't have enough time to understand the reason for those painful words.
He sighed heavily as he reread her letter.. She told him in direct words that she loved him.. She confirmed to his heart with a simple word what her eyes had said in a moment when they have betrayed her tongue and didn't support her words.. And he captured that moment to be provisions for his heart on a short journey he had taken far from home and far from her.. She asked him to leave her to struggle alone and depend on herself in order to regain control of her life.. He swallowed hard, deciding despite the difficulty of the decision to let her do whatever she wanted and come back to him whenever she wanted.. He raised his eyes, blurred by a shiny layer of water, saying weakly "I need to make sure she's okay"
