Song: Like the movies - Taylor John Williams
_____Thinking, he looks at the pretty woman in front of him, and the only question he's able to form in his head is:
Why did all of this have to happen?
Everything started with an article in the newspaper and the fight that followed.
It was easy to tell she was in a bad mood—she slammed the door and stormed down the hallway. The reason for her anger, however, was still unknown to him. The sun was shining, and everything seemed perfect.
When she entered the kitchen and didn't even look at him, he concluded that he was the reason for her mood. This theory was confirmed when he asked her about it.
"What did you do? Aren't you ashamed to even ask that?" Her voice was ice-cold, and his mind started working, but he couldn't think of anything he had done wrong. And that's what he told her.
"You met up with your ex-girlfriend in public and didn't even consider the fact that anyone might see you? Well, you thought wrong, and some people spotted you. Now the internet is blowing up about your 'love comeback.'"
With this wave of words, she slammed a newspaper on the table and disappeared out of the apartment. His mind was racing as he looked at the article. This was going to be hard to explain.
They still needed to talk about it, but there wasn't even a glimpse of a chance to make things better again.
Carlos spotted her with someone else pretty quickly—her ex, to be precise. She probably wanted to make him feel the same way he did. His insides hurt, but he was sure she was just trying to soothe the pain with this guy. Carlos saw how her shoulders hung low during a walk with her "new old" guy. Still, it was becoming clearer and clearer that everything between them was finished. That's not what his heart wanted. His heart wanted to get his girl back, the harmonious relationship, and the days full of laughter.
He would love to skip to the end of the movie—the part where the fighting lovers meet again and make up. A happy ending. But life isn't a movie, and so their next meeting doesn't end with a kiss and fireworks.
Carlos was on his way to her, and he couldn't even explain why. Maybe he'd had one or two glasses of alcohol and felt braver now. So, he rang the bell at her door. When she opened it, he was more than amazed at how pretty she looked. She wasn't even angry at him—quite the opposite.
She grabbed him by the collar of his shirt, pulled him into the apartment, and kissed him. Carlos could taste the alcohol on her lips as they almost devoured each other in the hallway. Everything felt hot on Carlos's skin, and they shed their clothes one by one, making their way to the bedroom to share the night.
Now, they sat at her kitchen table, not talking at all. Neither of them wanted to be the first to speak, and neither knew what the first topic should be. The betrayal? Her escape to her ex? The sex from last night?
Should they even talk or just end things? Carlos decided to be brave and spoke up.
"I think we should talk."
She simply nodded and gestured for him to go first. He took a deep breath and began his explanation.
"I didn't cheat on you. Yes, I met with her, but I didn't want to. I know that's no excuse, but I drank so much that evening just to cope with her annoying presence. That was a mistake. She took advantage of the fact that I couldn't react properly and kissed me. That's when they took the picture. I pushed her away, but those idiots with the cameras didn't catch that. After our fight, I wanted to clear everything up, but then I saw you with your ex and didn't even know if you still wanted to talk to me. So, I drank something for courage, and you know the rest." Carlos was rambling now, needing to take a deep breath before continuing.
"I don't even know if you still want this between us, or if you've realized I'm an idiot and don't want to deal with me anymore. But you need to know that I love you, and I didn't talk to you about it before you saw it in the newspaper. So..." This time, she managed to stop him.
"Can I say something?" she asked, more as a rhetorical question, and then spoke.
"Yes, you should've talked to me instantly, and yes, meeting with my ex wasn't my smartest decision. But I needed to distract myself. But it seems like we're acting the same. I was about to come to you after drinking something for courage."
And then they just looked at each other. After a moment, Carlos spoke again.
"So, everything is fine, and I can hug you?" He spread his arms slightly, and she laughed.
"Yes, everything is fine," she answered, and finally, she was close to him again.
And in the end, they had their happy ending, just like in the movies.
