_____That was a really bad idea is the only thought that comes to my head when Charles and I stand on the tall platform and look down the abysm. During the break between the races Charles and I decided to go on a little adventure, explore nature and just try to forget the first disastrous races of the Ferrari team.
The last days were beautiful and until now I didn't feel the need to leave ever again. Exploring the nature around our vacation home felt like living in a postcard, but where Charles brought me today is something I will never forget, and not on a positive note.
We searched for some places to visit together, but today only Charles knew the destination and he didn't want me to know anything about it while I slowly understand why with every person the line in front of gets shorter. Charles holds my hand tightly in his like he wants me to stop from turning around and running away.
How did he think riding on a kilometre-long zipline over a canyon would be a good idea? He knows exactly that I fear big heights, but it does not seem like he cares much about that fact today.
Instead, he has a happy smile on his lips and looks like he can't wait to give his life into the hands of a wire rope. I on the contrary feel like my heart is beating faster from time to time and that some people scream when they jump doesn't make it any better.
Only the fact that we are going to do a tandem jump makes it a little better. But only a little bit because I know exactly how it will be. I will scream and Charles would have the fun of his life. Well, he likes stuff that gives a lot of adrenalin like driving his Ferrari as fast as possible or jumping down from heights you probably should not.
Then the time is there. We have to go to the end of the platform and one of the employees starts to strap us to the wire rope. My hands are shaking, and I feel like I can't move anymore like a statue.
Lovingly Charles wraps his arms around me and lowers his head a bit to speak into my ear.
"Are you ready?" He asks me and sounds pretty excited.
"If I die, I will haunt you first." I just grumble and Charles starts laughing before simply jumping from the platform which makes us fall for a split second. Then the wire rope holds us, and we glide over the canyon.
I scream in fear and close my eyes as tight as possible while behind I can only hear loud laughter. For my preference, we are way too far from the ground right now and since that isn't going to change quickly, I try to think of something nice.
"Open your eyes, you will love the view," Charles speaks up and nearly has to scream because of the air which is blowing loudly.
I just shake my head at what Charles is able to feel against his chest. For nothing in the world, I would open my eyes right now. Only the thought of the height is enough, I do not need to see that.
"Please." I can almost see the sweet pout on Charles's lips and need to sight. It can't be that bad, or? Carefully I open my eyes a bit and don't look down, just straight forward.
A barely audible "wow" comes over my lips and Charles laughs. He was right, the view is amazing, but I would never do this again.
The green might be slightly blurred due to the speed, but everything still looks beautiful. Nonetheless, I am happy when the end of the zipline comes into my sight.
When we reach the platform, someone takes us off, we strip out of the belts and when we step onto the ground again, I fall onto my knees.
"Finally solid ground under my feet." I cheer and mimic kissing the ground. While people around us look a little disturbed by my action Charles just shakes his head in amusement.
Inviting Charles to hold out his hand for mine and I grab his to stand up. We leave the property of the horror zipline and make our way back to the place where we parked our rental car. While my legs still feel shaky Charles seems to be full of adrenalin.
"Look, it wasn't that bad." He starts to speak, but does not give me a chance to respond, and just keeps babbling.
"The feeling of being weightless and the view were definitely worth it. With the wind in the ears, I felt free and then the breath-taking high." I can only shake my head about his high-spirited mood. He is acting like a too-big-grown toddler.
"Can we do that again in the future?" Charles asks me when we reach the car, and I can do nothing but look at him in disbelief. Me, back on this devil zipline? Never.
"Then you can prepare yourself for a visit from my ghost because my heart can't handle this for a second time."
