5. Taken Away

Alejandro's P.O.V.

I don't know what's been up with Layli lately. She's been complaining about stomach pains. It's almost as if she was pregnant again.

But that couldn't be possible. Ever since Niyesha was born, we haven't had sex.

Alejandro: Are you sure you don't want me to come?

Layli: Yes baby. My mom would be taking me.

I nodded and kissed her goodbye. I was worried.

Could it be she's trying to hurt herself? I mean she did lose a child. She could be devastated and I wouldn't even know. She's good at holding her feelings in.

I continued watching the afternoon football game.

5 hours later...

Now I was getting worried.

It was about 6 in the evening, and it was getting dark.

Plus it was very cold December day. The coldest we've ever gotten in the past five years.

I was gonna call Layli, until she came through the door...

With a baby?

Alejandro: Whose baby is this?

Layli: Ours. They...they saved Leandra.

Alejandro: (Confused.) Saved her? Baby they said she wouldn't make it. That's impossible.

Layli: Well they did. Listen...I can't explain what happened baby. They saved her okay?

Alejandro: Your mom...she did something didn't she?

I knew a bit of this whole spiritual thing the two of them had going on. Well I mean from the bit I knew I didn't know they can revive a damn child?

Layli: We have a second daughter! Aren't you happy?

Alejandro: You can't just bring a child back to life Layli! We already told people you lost the baby!

Layli: So now this is all about what people say? Not about our child? I didn't "bring her back to life". She was reborn.

Alejandro: You soumd crazy!

No way was I gonna be bombarded with questions about this. I have a law firm. I can't let news like this get out there. It'll ruin my reputation. They'll investigate. I can't have that.

There was only was thing I could do.

Alejandro: Put her up for adoption.

Layli: ...What?

Alejandro: I'm not gonna let this ruin what we have. Our reputation would be finished.

Layli: Our reputation? You mean yours! This is about you!

Alejandro: Tomorrow we're putting her up for adoption. That's it.

I turned off the T.V., and went upstairs. I could hear Leandra crying all the way from the room. Next were plates crashing and glasses breaking. Something Layli did when she was really angry.

I know it would hurt her, but this is the only way.
