Spencer fidgets as he waits for his coffee to be called.

"Reid." The barista calls out and Spencer steps up to get his order.

"Thanks." He says, taking the cup.

Spencer turns to leave, jumping when he bumps into somebody.

"Oh, shoot. Sorry." He looks up at the guy who apologizes.

"Uh, no, it-- my bad." Spencer says. "Sorry." He ignores the weird feeling in his stomach when the guy's hand brushes his arm.

"Lucas." The barista calls out.

"Thanks." The guy takes his cup. "Sorry again." He tells Spencer as he walks past him.

"B-bye." Spencer awkwardly waves as the guy leaves. He clears his throat, frowning at his behavior, and quickly leaves.

A few days later Spencer is at the same coffee shop, having been elected to buy coffee for the whole time since they had to stay late for paperwork. The place is fairly empty, not many people wanting caffeine at 7 PM.

Spencer glances over when the bell on the door rings, immediately looking away when he recognizes the guy from the other day.

Spencer stays silent while the guy places his order and walks over in the general direction to wait.

"Night owl?" Spencer flinches at the question, not expecting anybody to talk to him.

"Hmm?" He hums.

"I don't know many people who are here for coffee during dinner time." The guy, Lucas, chuckles.

"Oh, uh... yeah, uh, la-late night at work." Spencer says.

"Definitely understood." Lucas nods. "What do you do?"

"Uh... I'm... I'm an FBI agent." Spencer hesitantly informs, unsure why the guy keeps talking to him. "Uh, Behavioral Analysis Unit."

"Oh, cool." Lucas nods.

"Mm-hmm." Spencer nods. It takes him a moment before realizing he could probably be polite. "And, um, you?"

"Oh, I'm a doctor. Well, technically still kinda in med school. I'm a resident." Lucas informs.

"Oh. Good for you." Spencer says, not sure how else to respond.

"Yeah." Lucas mumbles, smiling at the man's awkwardness. "So you always get your coffee here?"

"Uh... yeah, us-usually." Spencer nods. Lucas hums.

"Reid." The barista puts the carton of drinks on the counter.

"Thank you." Spencer tells her, taking the carton and extra cup.

"See you around then." Lucas smiles.

"Uh... ye-yeah, maybe." Spencer nervously replies, quickly leaving.

Spencer returns to the BAU, giving the coffees to JJ who starts to hand them out.

"You good, pretty boy?" Derek asks.

"What? Yeah, no, I'm fine." Spencer says.

"You sure?" Derek chuckles. "You look like you're blushing. Cute girl get your attention?"

"What? No. It's chilly out." Spencer says.

"Mm-hmm. Right." Derek smirks.

"Leave the poor boy alone." Penelope scolds the man.

"It was just a little teasing." Derek defends.
