Jessica had been okay with Spencer being at work for days. He'd been back for a week before he ever got a case, leaving her completely alone for the first time in weeks.

Jessica had stayed up all night, making sure the doors and windows stay locked. Once he had called her to inform the team were on their way back, she could relax a little. She'd be able to sleep with him home.

Spencer gets home around midnight, quietly shutting the door and locking it. He puts his stuff down and takes his shoes off.

"Jessi?" He quietly calls out, not finding her anywhere. He walks into the bedroom, stopping when he finds her asleep with the lamp on. She's curled up and is hugging a pillow. He softly smiles, but it falters when he sees her gun on the nightstand.

Spencer sighs, walking over to her. He grabs their extra blanket and drapes it over her, covering her up to her shoulders. He rubs her arm for a few moments before reaching up to brush her hair back.

The movement makes Jessica wake up, the woman gripping onto his wrist and holding it off.

"No, hey, hey, it's me. It's me, it's me. It's okay." Spencer quickly assures, easing his girlfriend's fear.

"Hi." She groggily mumbles.

"Hi." He whispers. "Sorry. I didn't mean to wake you."

"It's fine." She says. "Did you just get home?" She asks, looking at the clock.

"Yeah." Spencer nods. "You okay?"

"Yeah. Yeah, no, I did fine. Totally normal." Jessica says. Spencer nods, not mentioning the gun or the dark circles under her eyes that say otherwise. He just lets her lie.

"I'm gonna change and then we can get some sleep." Spencer tells her.

"Okay." Jessica nods. Spencer kisses her on the forehead before starting to get ready for bed.

Spencer climbs into the bed and Jessica turns over to face him, cuddling into his chest. Spencer wraps his arms around her, kissing her on the head.

Spencer is away on another case, leaving Jessica alone again. She knows she'll get used to it, but she still hates it. She hates feeling so dependent on him.

Jessica sighs when her phone rings, looking down at the contact.

"Hey, Penelope." She greets, putting her phone on speaker.

"Hey, girly." Penelope tries to sound extra chipper. "So, I'm able to get out of the office for lunch if you want to meet up. Have some social interaction. I miss you."

"Uh..." Jessica grimaces, looking around the living room. "That-- that sounds like fun, Pen, but-- but I gotta get my stuff unpacked, you know? What I can, anyway."

"Oh. Well, I-I could come over and help if you want. I'll bring food." Penelope says. "I can come over just for lunch or even later."

"No. No, it's fine, Pen. I-I can do it by myself." Jessica says.

"Oh. Okay. Yeah, of course." Penelope says, her tone a lot more dejected than five seconds ago. "Just... just let me know if you need anything. Text, call, email, come to the BAU."

"Yeah, yeah, I know. Thanks." Jessica says. "I, uh, I gotta go. I'll talk to you later."

"O-okay. Bye." Penelope says.

"Bye." Jessica hangs up. She sighs, looking around at all of the boxes.

~ ~ ~

Jessica's managed to unpack three boxes and took a break to eat. She's working on the fourth box, sighing as she stares at the room that's now even more cluttered.
