Chapter one:
I grab my bow and arrow and run the arrow tip through my browny red hair. A tip I learnt a long time ago, it keeps the arrowhead strong and sharp. I feel a glint in my green eyes today. I smile feeling refreshed. Today was the day. I honestly can not wait for tonight.
I start my training course that goes through the woods. I glide swift fully through the trees. Grabbing each branch. Swinging 25 feet high in the air. I know frightning right?! First time I tried I fell and nearly broke my leg. Talk about a bad first try. But here I was swinging through the trees like Tarzan.
Then I hear a noise. It's faint. My senses focus. Living in the woods gives you extremely high senses. Sounds like animals coming this way. Well, most animals can't climb, right? Look I may be the big bad Raven Hood, but if it's a wolf or a bear I get scared, you would too.
You know it as a wolf that killed my real mother. I hate them now. I don't kill them. I'm more scared than mad but I dislike them more than anything.
I stay perched in the treetops waiting for the animals to come. I see one, they're wolves. I dive onto a branch to get a closer look out of the wolves eyesight.
About 13 odd wolves pile into the clearing just below me. That's an unusually large amount of wolves in one pack for this area. I mean wolves aren't exactly popular.
One lets out a howl. Another 4 wolves come running. I am so dead...
There's another howl from the south, but it sounds different. I focus on the sound for a moment before turning back to the wolves. But they were gone. They must have run off. I waited there for a bit to see if they would come back.
They didn't, but some men came walking through wearing just shorts. I could lie and say I didn't stare, but I mean wouldn't you?
They start talking and I eavesdrop on their conversation.
"Any news"?
"Nope".
"Okay. Well keep searching then meet here again for lunch. Bring a rabbit or something. I don't have enough money to buy you everything". That last one was propbably like their boss or something. And rabbit I mean what?
All the men nodded.
I see one look up and spot me. His eyes meet mine. I glare at him. But also have an expression that says please don't tell. He looks a bit shocked, then scared but just a fraction.
"Guys," he says. "We've got company".
Damn, he ratted me out. That was all it took. I leap from tree to tree expertly.
I hear footsteps below me. I look down and see the men change into wolves. Big wolves exactly like the ones I saw earlier. I almost fell out of the tree. Wait, werewolves exist. This can't be right. This is not some twilight movie or book. Right, right, it was a book first.
I kept going pulling myself up. Werewolves are not real I chanted over and over in my head. Fake, a figment of my imagination. When I looked again they were still there, chasing me. Big sharp teeth snapping, a few howling, others just keeping their gazes fixed on me.
They all keep the chase. I have a sudden thought.
Well, they can't climb. I just stop. I sit watching in the leaves. They stop too. They paw at the ground and then change back into a human.
I shield my eyes as soon as I notice that they are naked. When I peak between my fingers they're all wearing shorts again. Thank god.
Eight of the wolves have up the chase and wander away. The nine left all start climbing the tree at once. I look to my left. Trees too far away. I look all around. It's like all the trees have crept away from me. It's too far. I mutter under my breath.
All nine of them are about five metres away. I did the only thing I could do. I shoot an arrow into the distance. It hits a nearby tree. With all their gazes on the arrow. I aim then take my leap. I plummet to the ground and roll when I make contact. I breathe in quickly. It hurts more than you would think.
I heard someone shout 'god damn it'. I sprint into the forest back to my tree. I slide in one of the 8 trap doors I have that lead into my home. The tree hides me perfectly. It looks natural enough too. That always seems to help.
My foot hurts a little from my landing, a height of about 27 feet.I sit and wait. I listen till my ears hurt. Nothing. The day is still light so, I guess it's time to go hunting...
