Elizabeth's POV
It wasn't my intention to be away for as long as I was. Normally one month abroad was nothing to me, it didn't as I had nothing waiting for me back home in Chicago, but now being a month traveling for work meant not seeing Divya. So now it was something to be away that long.
Maybe she didn't care, probably didn't even bother her that I was not there constantly, probably was even relieved that she wouldn't have to fake being attracted or in love with me.
But it wasn't the case for me, I missed her and I wish she did so too. I'll keep my hopes up about that.
"How was your landing dear?" My dad asked through the phone.
"A bit shaky with turbulence, but it was fine overall. Long trip." I said as I entered my car and watched my chauffeur close the door for me.
"You've had a long four past weeks, I wish that was the last of it but I'm aware you are to attend a charity event tomorrow night." He reminded me.
Yeah a bloody charity event hosted by non other than Hugh and bitter ex-girlfriend.
"Sure am."
"Are you taking your fiancee with you?"
My fiancee. "I will. I came to Vancouver to meet with Divya, I haven't been able to see her."
"You miss her, it's only normal. I cannot wait to meet the woman who makes my little Lizzie so happy. Your mum says she is a lovely young woman." He said with more excitement than I'm used to hear from him.
I blushed in the solitude of my car. However I couldn't help but think how destroyed they will be when this whole rigged thing comes to an end and Divya is no longer my 'fiancee'. They won't be the ones hurt about it though, that much I can assure them.
"I hope you don't ambush me with a surprise visit when you come to do that." I said referring to what my mum did.
"You know me better than that dear. Apologies though I have to cut the call short."
"Duty calls, talk later dad, love you." After hanging up I pondered on whether I should call Divya or not, I already told her I would be coming over the other night but I wondered if I should still surprise her.
I settled on the latter and went on to call Kaden instead.
"Elizabeth?" Kaden said when she picked up the call.
"Hello to you too."
"Hey sorry, what's up? Haven't heard from you in a while."
"Not much I just arrived in Vancouver, so I was wondering if—"
"If Divya is home?" She asked cutting me off mid sentence. "She's not or at least not yet, she left for the gym like an hour or two ago. She should be back home soon, but I just left the apartment like fifteen minutes ago."
"Thank you for the information... how are you?" I ignored the fact that she had just guessed why I was calling in the first place.
"I've been better, but I also been worse so. What about you?" Kaden asked.
"I'm fine." I'll be better soon though. However Kaden's answer reminded me she was still going through a heartbreak of her own, I wanted to ask about it but at the same time I knew it wouldn't do any good to ask about it so I abstained.
"You don't sound fine. If it's because of Divya don't worry, she misse— oh fuck—" I heard Kaden cursed while the sound of something falling on the other side of the line followed. "Sorry to cut the call so short Liz, but I think I just broke my dad's laptop."
