chapter 34: reno loves annoying people
~reno~
"It's too early to be awake right now," Weisz whines as I pull my car into the driveway of the beach house we'll be staying at during the weekend.
I turn off the car. "Weisz, you wake up a lot earlier than this on training days. You would have had to wake up earlier today if Freida didn't make this a weekend training camp."
"I know." Weisz unbuckles his seatbelt. "I've gotten used to waking up early whenever I surf, but it feels nice to be able to sleep in, which definitely isn't going to happen during the weekend."
"Then I'll try not to keep you up all night."
Weisz playfully nudges me before the two of us get out of the car. We take our luggage out from the trunk, then head into the house. We're the last to arrive, which is understandable because Weisz is the only one who doesn't live in the city. We have a longer drive to get here. We still made it on time, at least.
Kyle is the first to notice that Weisz has arrived, but instead of saying anything to Weisz, Kyle looks at me and says, "Great. What are you doing here?"
"Freida emailed the team saying everyone is allowed to bring a guest," I say. "Do you not know how to read or...?"
Kyle glares at me. "I meant, why did Weisz choose you to bring out of all his friends?"
"Awe, do you really hate me that much?"
"Weisz said that you're the one who doesn't like me. We've barely interacted for you to make that decision."
"Yet you're the one throwing a fit over me being here."
"I'm not throwing a fit."
I'm about to saying something about his attitude clearly proving otherwise, but Weisz gently places a hand on my shoulder. "Let's just find Freida to show us to our rooms." He then talks quietly so only I can hear what he says next. "The whole point of this camp is to fix the tension on the team. I don't want to get in trouble for being part of an argument."
Even though I was only giving back attitude Kyle gave to me, I still don't continue talking to him. I'm here for Weisz, and I don't want to create a further wedge between him and one of his teammates. I'll just try my best to bite my tongue for now.
We find Freida in the kitchen making lunch for everyone. Yes, lunch. It's close to noon, but that's somehow too early for Weisz to be awake. She pauses making lunch so she can show me and Weisz to the room we'll be staying in. There are six rooms, but eight teammates, plus some extra guests brought by a teammate. Some rooms have a total of four guests, but thankfully Weisz and I are fortunate to be the only two in a room.
Freida says it's to make sure Weisz has the space to relax since medically-wise, he needs it the most. Honestly, it's a bit surprising she's letting us share by ourselves since she knows we are a couple, but then again, teachers on the school trip didn't care either.
The team is going to start their usual training routine a bit after lunch, so we have time to relax while Freida makes lunch. Weisz immediately lies down on the bed. "I'm going to sleep."
"I'm pretty sure lunch will be ready in a few minutes," I say. "Frieda looked close to finishing."
"Then I will sleep for a few minutes." Weisz holds out his arms towards me. "Come sleep with me."
"I don't think that's appropriate when everyone else is awake."
Weisz furrows his eyebrows, not understanding the second meaning behind his words. I love my himbo boyfriend. "How would sleeping together be inappropriate?" Weisz finally understands what it could mean. "Never mind. Don't answer that. Then... Let's cuddle instead."
I sit down on the bed beside Weisz. "I mean, we can sleep together if we're quiet."
Weisz nudges me. "Not at the camp. The school trip was different because we were in a hotel room. Here, we're sharing a living space with a bunch of other people."
"Don't worry, I won't initiate anything. I just like teasing you."
Weisz isn't able to sleep for the few minutes it takes for Freida to finish lunch. She calls everyone downstairs to the kitchen to make their own sandwiches. Along with the sandwiches are a variety of fruit and veggies to choose from.
Weisz and I make our plates before finding a place to sit together at the dining room table. Part of me really wants to flirt with Weisz because he looks so attractive right now, but I hold back. It's probably not the best idea to flirt with him with a bunch of people around.
After everyone is done eating, Freida gives the team time to relax and digest their food before getting right into training. The back patio has a clear view of the beach, so I stay there to keep an eye on Weisz during training. I normally do that during practice anyway; I just keep my distance so Weisz doesn't feel like someone is constantly hovering over him.
Weisz's stamina has gotten a lot better the more he practices. He's able to practice long without breaks. He'll still have to take some while the rest of the team continues training, but they're short breaks.
But every time he takes a break, I notice some team members looking annoyed that they have to keep going. No wonder Weisz doesn't really talk to anyone on the team. I don't know if he has notices the annoyance, but it's clearly enough to make the others not wanting to talk to Weisz outside of practice.
I feel bad for him. He doesn't like going around announcing his medical history because he doesn't want to be treated like he's fragile. But not announcing it means that when he does get some treatment, people think that he's getting favoured.
Weisz must notice the annoyance because when training is over and he walks over to me, he says, "I think my teammates hate me. I tried talking to them, but they were all short with me."
"Yeah, I saw," I say. "It's because you get more breaks than them."
Weisz sighs. "That's not my fault."
"I know. I'm sorry."
"It's fine. I'll just... have to find some way for them to not be mad at me without letting them know why."
