chapter 28: reno is surprised but not against it

~reno~

Now that it's summer, Weisz has been spending a lot of time at my house whenever he doesn't have practice, much to the dismay of his parents. It's not because they don't want Weisz over at my house, but they say that they never see their son anymore because he's either at practice or my house.

Oh, well. Sucks to be them, I guess.

It doesn't help that Weisz's house doesn't have air conditioning; only his parents' and grandma's rooms have an AC, leaving Weisz and Celine to suffer in the summer heat that makes their house feel unbelievably stuffy.

Thankfully for me, I do have built in air conditioning in my house, so my dad and I are able to make the entire house cool instead of just a room or two.

Weisz and I have mainly just been chilling in my room whenever he's over. It does get a bit boring just staying at my house, but Weisz is normally exhausted after practice and doesn't really want to go out anywhere, and that's fine with me. I'd rather just relax at home despite being bored than have Weisz not enjoy himself out of the house because he is too tired.

Weisz is currently lying on my bed, scrolling at videos on his phone while I'm sitting on my beanbag chair, just mindlessly strumming my guitar. Weisz suddenly just lowers his arm so he's not looking at his phone anymore. "I'm so bored," he whines.

"I know something we can do to pass the time that's very fun," I say as I stop strumming my guitar to look at my boyfriend.

       Weisz sits up. "Really? What?"

"Well, it involves both of us going on the bed, one of us on top of the other."

Weisz sighs as he lies down back on the bed. "I should have known that was going to be your suggestion. I thought we agreed never to do it when your dad is home."

"We did, but we can play some really loud music. My dad never cares when I play loud music anyway, so it's not like it will be suspicious or anything."

       "No."

I sigh. "Well, there goes the only suggestion I had."

"I'm sure there are other things we can do," Weisz says. "Like..." He tries to think of something, but can't come up with anything. He sighs. "The only thing that comes to my mind is watching something, but we've watched so many shows and movies. I don't know what to watch."

"Yeah, I get it," I say. When Weisz was bedridden because of his leukaemia and I was constantly over at his house, one of the things we did was just watch movies and TV shows. We've watched so much that there isn't anything new to watch that interests us.

"At least I don't have practice tomorrow," Weisz says. "We can actually go out somewhere and do something fun. Like..." Weisz thinks but once again, he doesn't come up with anything. "I've got nothing."

       "There's the arcade."

"Oh. Yeah, we can go to the arcade. But, like, in the late afternoon because I want to sleep in. I've been waking up too early for practice."

"Don't worry, I want to sleep in too. I have no intention on waking up early unless I have to."

I get a notification on my phone that the food I ordered for me and Weisz was dropped off at my door, so I tell Weisz before I get up and head downstairs. Right as I got downstairs, I notice that my dad is getting ready to head out somewhere, but he's dressed up in a somewhat fancy attire. I don't think I've ever seen my dad wear something fancy in a long time.

"Where are you going?" I ask.

"Oh, I'm just going out," Dad says as he slips his shoes on.

"Well, yeah, obviously," I ask, opening the door and grabbing the takeout bag that's sitting in front of the door. "That's why I asked where you're going."

       "It's nowhere important," Dad says.

"Uh... I think it is, otherwise you wouldn't be dressed up. If I didn't know any better, I'd say you're trying to hide where you're going from me." Then it hits me. It's a bit obvious where my dad is going. He's dressed up. He's trying to hide it from me. "Are you going on a date?"

My dad hasn't been on a date. Ever. So I can see why he's trying to hide it from me. Ever since I was born, it has always just been the two of us. No one else.

Dad hesitates before he says, "No. I'm going to a meeting."

Maybe Dad doesn't think I would be okay with him going on a date, but I definitely am. "Dad, if you are going on a date, that's okay. I'm not mad or anything."

       "Really?" Dad asks.

"Yeah, of course," I say. "You deserve to be happy, and just because you have feelings for someone else, it's not going to take away how much you loved Mom. I think it's great that you're putting yourself out there. You know, as long as the woman you're going to see isn't some evil witch."

Dad smiles. "Don't worry, she's not. She's a very nice woman."

"Then I'm happy for you," I say. "Really." Would it be weird to know my dad is going on a date after seventeen years after his wife passed away? Yes, but if there's a chance he'll find love again, I don't want to stop him. He's a great dad and deserves to be happy.

"Thank you, Reno," Dad says. "Don't make a mess while I'm gone."

Dad leaves, and I head back upstairs to where Weisz is now lying down on the ground. "Dude, you okay?" I ask.

"Did you just dude-zone me?" Weisz asks, lifting his head to look at me. He then lies his head back down. "I'm fine. I just got bored of lying down on the bed."

"So you decided to lie down on the ground?"

       "Yes."

I shake the takeout bag. "Food's here. And my dad is going out for a bit, meaning we'll have the place all to ourselves."

"I'll see what my mood is like after eating."

       "Fair enough."
