chapter 13: weisz is a supportive boyfriend

~weisz~

I'm starting to get a bit worried about Reno. He hasn't returned to Amelia and Jane's hotel room yet, and the bakery he went to isn't that far from the hotel. He definitely should have been back by now.

I've tried texting him, but I haven't gotten any reply from him yet. I might just have to go to the bakery soon to see if he's still there.

"I'm sure Reno is fine," Amelia assures when he sees me look at my phone again. "The bakery is a popular one and it's right by a hotel. There's probably a long line and it's taking him a while to get the food."

"But he would text me back if he's just in a line," I say. "He's not replying to me at all."

"Maybe his phone is dead," Adam says. "My phone dies all the time because I forget to charge it until it's at, like, five percent."

"Yeah, maybe..." I say, though I'm not sure if I believe it. Reno isn't the type of person to let his phone die when he's out in public.

Right as I decide to head to the bakery to check up on him, I finally get a text from him. He sent me his location with a text saying, can you meet me here? The moment I check to see where the location is, I get up and hurry to leave, telling my friends that I have to go. He's at a police station right now.

The police station is a bit of a walk from the hotel, and I don't know if I have the time to figure out the bus route there or try to hail a cab, so I decide to just walk there. Or run. I alternate between running and walking, trying not to use up all my energy. On the bright side, I think I've been gaining a lot more stamina since I'm able to run for a bit before getting out of breath.

By the time I make it to the police station, Reno is walking out with his dad and Mrs. Bassow. I don't know what happened yet, but Reno looks a bit shaken up. I hurry over to Reno and wrap my arms around him, and he immediately hugs me tightly.

I am a bit out of breath from running some of the way here, so Reno asks, "Did you run here?"

"Of course I did," I say.

"You should be taking care of your health."

"My stamina is a lot stronger than it was a few weeks ago." I pull away and place my hands on Reno's cheeks. "Are you okay? Are you hurt? What happened?"

"Just... a situation with Gabriel," Reno says. "He wasn't happy that he got fired and he blamed me."

"Did you hurt you? Or touch you? Because if he did, I swear--"

"He didn't do anything," Reno interrupts. "I mean, not really. He tried, but Dave actually stopped him, and Marie tried helping me through the panic attack I had. Mrs. Bassow thought it would be good to report Gabriel to the police anyway, even if nothing happens. Might as well try."

I hug Reno again, feeling bad that I wasn't there to stop Gabriel, or try to help Reno through his panic attack. But I am very grateful that Dave and Marie were there. Even if they don't get along with us, it's nice to know that they're not the type of people to just watch something like that happen and walk away.

"Gabriel made me drop the food I bought for everyone," Reno says. "So... Sorry I didn't bring that back."

"Forget about the food. The only thing that matters right now is you and that you're okay."

Reno hugs me tightly before telling me he just wants to go back to the hotel and relax. Before we head back, I text my friends to tell them there was a situation with Reno so he wasn't able to bring the food, but he is okay for the most part. They, thankfully, could care less about the food and is just happy Reno is okay.

When Reno and I get back to our hotel room, he immediately lies down on the bed and places his hands over his face. "I thought this was going to be the trip of a lifetime," he says. "But thanks to that creep, I just can't wait until it's over to head home."

I sit down beside Reno, grabbing my laptop off of the nightstand so we can watch a movie or TV show. Something to get Reno's mind off of everything. "I'm sorry he ruined the trip for you."

Reno removes his hands from his face. "Don't apologize. It's not your fault." He rolls onto his side so he's now facing me. "Maybe things will be different tomorrow now that we're getting a new tour guide. And it is out last tour experience before we get one final free day. Maybe we can lie in bed all day on our final day."

"You just want to lie in bed on our final day doing nothing?" I ask.

"Who says we'll be doing nothing? There are plenty of things we can do in bed, if you know what I mean."

I stare at Reno, trying to figure out if he means something sexual or not. But judging by the smile on his face, he totally means something sexual. And I am very tempted to take the offer, but I also want to do something on our final day to make up for the horrible experience Reno had here. Something that will make him remember that instead.

I don't know if I'll be able to think of anything in time, but I want to at least try. Reno is amazing person and deserves something special.

However, if I do think of something, I want it to be a surprise for him, so instead of giving away the possibility of doing something amazing on our last day, I instead say, "Tempting, but I doubt we can do that all day."

"Yeah, you're right," Reno says. "You don't last very long."

I gently smack Reno's chest. "Shut up. I told you, my stamina is getting a lot stronger. I might even be able to..." I stop mid-sentence, not sure if I really want to get back into the one true passion I had before I ever got leukaemia.

Reno, however, is somehow able to read my mind. "You might be able to get back into surfing?"

I know for a fact that I never told Reno I used to surf, so I sigh. "Alright, who snitched?"

"One of your friends," Reno says. "Can't remember who. Probably Adam. I think it's cool you used to surf, and you should totally get back into it once your doctor gives you the all clear."

"I don't know," I say. "What if my cancer comes back again? I'll have to stop surfing again, and it was painful the first time I had to stop."

"But what if it doesn't? You can't just not get back into your passion."

       "I don't know. We'll see."
