chapter 30: reno like the summer. kind of.

~reno~

I wipe the sweat off of my forehead before I leave the staffroom to get back to work. The diner's air conditioning is broken and likely won't be fixed until tomorrow, so I have to suffer working in the stuffy building for now.

On the bright side, not too many people are coming to the diner because of the broken air conditioning. There's a sign outside to let them know, and I guess that has been turning people away.

In fact, the only people who have been coming into the diner are just getting takeout, so I don't have to worry about serving people. I don't particularly hate serving people, but the heat has put me in a bad mood so I don't really feel like interacting with anyone.

And to make things worse, Weisz isn't working today so I don't have anyone to flirt with or to make out with during breaks. Although, I probably wouldn't want to make out with him since I'm too moody for that. Not too moody to flirt, though.

Eventually through my shift, there aren't any customers, so I take out my phone to text Weisz and see what he is up to. He's just at home melting away, in his words. His room doesn't have air conditioning, so he has to settle with a fan that isn't really keeping him cool.

I tell him he can come over to my house when I'm done work, and he's more than happy to. I don't blame him. I hate when places don't have air conditioning during the summer. It's one of the worst feelings.

When I'm finally off of work, I leave as quickly as I can so I don't have to stay in the stuffy building anymore. I text Weisz to tell him I'm off of work now and can pick him up if he doesn't want to walk to my house. He agrees, so I drive to his house.

The moment Weisz gets into the passenger seat of my car, he sinks into the seat. "Thank goodness your car has air conditioning," he says. "I can't handle stuffy rooms."

"Then you're lucky you weren't working today," I say. "The AC broke and won't be fixed until tomorrow. It was the worst."

"Ugh, I hate the summer," Weisz says as I pull out of his driveway and start driving home.

"Really? I thought that you would like summer, being a surfer and all."

"Okay, I hate summer when I'm inside and not at the beach. I keep trying to convince my parents to let me have an AC in my room but no, it will cost too much money. Thank goodness your room has AC."

"Are you just dating me because I have AC?"

       "Yes."

       "I knew it."

The moment we get inside my house and to my bedroom, Weisz flops down on the ground. Not even on the bed where it's a lot more comfortable.

"I have a bed, you know," I say.

"I know," Weisz says. "It's just too far for me right now, and I want to take in the cool air."

"Fair enough." I definitely get Weisz since I just came home from working in a stuffy diner. My bedroom feels like a breath of fresh air, which is ironic considering we're inside and not outside.

I lie down on my bed, reaching for the remote so I can find something to watch on TV to pass the time. It doesn't take long for me to get used to the air conditioned room and soon enough, it's up to the point where I'm cold enough to get under my blankets.

Weisz gets up and walks over to the bed, also getting under the blankets. "This is a lot better than just staying in my room. I just might have to sleep over, if my parents let me."

"They probably will," I say. "It won't be the first time you'll be sleeping over. And if they say no, just tell them we won't have sex since my dad will be home. They seem to always let you stay over whenever I say something like that."

"Yeah, no, I'm not going to say anything about that," Weisz says. "I'd rather not talk about sex with my parents."

"Then I can bring it up."

"Not happening. How are you so shameless?"

I shrug. "I just don't care what people think." I got used to people judging me when I went to school here in town instead of my new school, so I don't really care what people think. Kind of. If they judge me for my sexuality, that's a whole different story.

My dad is at work so since Weisz and I are home alone, it doesn't take long for us to get intimate with each other. It definitely doesn't help that we're feeling a lot more relaxed in the air conditioned room.

We just go back to watching TV afterwards, but it isn't long before Weisz starts complaining that he's bored.

"We can go for round two," I say.

"No," Weisz says. "I just don't have the attention span for TV right now. How about you play some music to serenade me?"

I lazily reach my arm in the direction of my guitar, which isn't in arm's reach. "I can't. My guitar... It's so far."

       Wiesz sighs. "I'm so bored."

"Yes, you've said so multiple times. We can go out somewhere."

       "Nah, I'm not that bored."

"Oh, good, because I don't really want to get up."

Weisz rolls over onto his side. "I'm just going to sleep."

       "Sleep with me?"

Weisz gently slaps my arm. "Stop that. We're not going for a second round."

"I'm just kidding." I lower the TV's volume so it will be easier for Weisz to nap, and just in case I end up falling asleep as well. I am a bit tired anyway, so maybe it would be good to take a nap. I do like the free time I have in the summer, but the heat makes it hard to enjoy it. Oh well. It's better than going to school.
