chapter 24: reno thinks his boyfriend is hot
~reno~
I can tell Weisz is nervous for the tryouts but at the same time, he's also excited for it. And I'm excited for him. While I didn't see him surf in the past, I know it must have been hard for him to give it up when he was first diagnosed with cancer. He'll always have that fear of his cancer returning, especially since it had happened once already, so it's nice to see that he's not letting that fear control him.
And on the plus side, Weisz is very hot when he just gets out of the water, so I am more than happy to watch him surf every single time. I never thought I would have a surfer for a boyfriend, but I don't regret it at all.
"So how do the tryouts work?" I ask as the two of us wait in the line for Weisz to sign in. From what I could tell, there are a lot of people at the tryouts. Those who are trying out are given a different colour shirt to wear depending on their age and skill level so the judges know who to look for.
"See that wave simulator over there?" Weisz asks, looking at a large pool of water with waves mimicking the ocean waves. I nod. "We try out on there. Show our skills. Even though we have to bank on high waves showing up during comps, it will be unfair if someone doesn't get a chance to properly try out because of the lack of good waves."
"That makes sense," I say. "So everyone gets the same wave?"
Weisz nods. "It makes tryouts as fair as possible."
Weisz gets to the front of the line and once he signs in, he's given a pink shirt. "Ooh, perfect," I say. "Pink is definitely your colour."
Weisz just smiles as the two of us move out of the way so the next person can sign in. Weisz has to change into his wetsuit first before putting on the shirt, so we find his friends and family first before so I won't be alone while he gets changed. I try to tell him that I can go with him to watch him, I mean help him, get changed, but he doesn't seem to appreciate that comment.
"Ugh, the spawn of Satan himself is here," Celine suddenly says.
"Celine," Weisz's mom, Sheila, says in a warning tone. "Please don't speak about other people that way."
"What if I'm talking about the people that got Weisz and Reno banned from the school dance?" Celine asks.
"Are you talking about them?" Sheila asks.
"No, I'm talking about Kyle."
"Ugh, Kyle," Weisz's dad, Jarvis, says. His wife immediately glares at him for somewhat encouraging Celine's distaste for Kyle, which I also agree with. I've never even personally met Kyle and I still hate him. "What? He's annoying. So full of himself. Clearly, Weisz is a better surfer and you don't see Weisz bragging to everyone."
Weisz should brag about being a great surfer. And for being hot. But he's too humble, so I will gladly brag about it for him.
Weisz doesn't take long to get changed so soon enough, he's back with us. He's know wearing his wetsuit with the pink shirt over top and it definitely confirmed one thing. Pink is Weisz's colour and he needs more pink in his wardrobe.
"Weisz," I say.
"What's up?" Weisz asks.
"Please buy more pink clothes," I say. "You look so fucking hot."
He sighs, but Adam is the one to say, "Yeah, hi, please don't flirt with all of us around. It makes us all feel lonely."
I look at Weisz, and he looks at me, and I know we're both thinking the same thing; Adam probably doesn't actually feel lonely because he's either secretly dating Amelia or secretly hooking up with her. We don't know the full extent of their relationship except them hooking up in Paris.
"What?" Adam asks. "What's the look for?"
"What look?" Weisz asks. "I didn't give you a look?"
"No, but you looked at Reno," Adam says. "You had some sort of secret boyfriend communication."
"Did we?" Weisz asks.
"I was just silently flirting with him since you don't want me to flirt with him around everyone," I say.
"That's a boldface lie," Adam says. "You always flirt with Weisz without caring who overhears you. I've been scarred about all the stuff you said to him in Paris. I'm just glad I didn't have to share a room with you two."
"Wait, hold on," Shelia says. "Weisz, did you share a room with Reno in Paris? After we told you not to?"
Weisz stares at his mom for a bit before saying, "Mom, I'm not sure what you expected. Sharing a room with Reno on our school trip was no different than me sleeping over at his house, which you let me do all the time. Besides, I was still recovering so I needed someone who knew how to take care of me, which Reno did."
"Yes, but--" Sheila begins, but Weisz's grandma, Winifred, cuts her off.
"Oh, relax, Sheila," Winifred says. "What's done is done. If the school didn't have an issue with the two of them sharing a room, and I'm sure they know they're dating, then it's not an issue."
"Yeah, and we were a bunch of teenagers in Paris," I say. "I'm sure Weisz and I weren't the only ones who hooked up."
"Oh, God, can we not talk about this in front of my family?" Weisz asks. And as if someone heard him and granted his wish, it was announced the tryouts would begin, starting with everyone in pink shirts. Weisz says his thanks to the sky before heading off towards the wave simulator with his surfboard.
I don't know much about surfing but when it was Weisz's turn, I assume he did a very good job judging by all the cheers from everyone watching. Jane knows I don't know enough, so she says, "Trust me, he did a really good job, especially for someone who had to take a break from surfing last year."
"You think he'll make it on a team?" I ask.
"Oh, yeah, for sure," Jane says. "It all just depends on which team."
