just a reminder: when dialogue is italicized, it's because they're talking in french. i'm just too lazy to write it in french then write the translations in the comments (which i used to do) for those who don't speak french lol.
chapter 8: reno doesn't know what to do
~reno~
I'm starting to get a bit hungry, so I sit up on the bed and stretch since I've basically been lying in it all day with Weisz, except for when I get up to eat. "Think you're okay to head down to the lobby for dinner?"
Weisz nods and sits up as well, though he soon rubs his head and closes his eyes. "On second thought, I should probably stay here. I'm feeling a bit dizzy."
"That's okay," I say. "I could go find something outside of the hotel to bring for dinner."
"You don't have to."
"Okay, but I will anyway. I'm sure you don't want to eat hotel food the entire time."
"Uh, says you. The hotel food is extremely good. I'll take it over the cafeteria food back at school, and I eat that almost every day. Although... Food outside of the hotel does sound really good."
I get off the bed and smile at Weisz before giving him a kiss. "Then I will go find something for us to eat. Anything in particular you want?"
Weisz shakes his head. "No. I'm fine with trying something new too since you know what food I don't like, so whatever you get is fine."
"So if I go to a store and come back with condoms...?"
Weisz lightly shoves me away. "Food, Reno. I'm fine with whatever food you get."
"I know. You're just so fun to tease." I'm glad Weisz gets flustered easily, because it makes it so much fun for me to tease him just to see his reaction. I can mention anything sexual and he'll probably blush profusely.
I grab my wallet before leaving the hotel room. I've seen a few cafes and stores that seemed interesting, so after I leave the hotel, I walk around for a bit to decide which one to try. I want to make sure what I choose for Weisz is something he would really like. He has been a bit upset having to stay in his room all day.
I find a cafe that seems interesting enough, especially since there were a few sweet things on the menu. I know for a fact that Weisz loves sweet food, almost as much as he loves spicy food. There isn't any spicy options on the menu, so sweet is the next best option.
I pick out a dessert for Weisz as well, paying for both of our meals to-go. It doesn't take long for it to get made and once it is, they hand me the food in a paper bag. I thank them before I leave the cafe and head back to the hotel.
I hope Weisz will feel better tomorrow because the last thing he wanted to happen on this vacation, apart from getting sick, was having to stay in his hotel room all day. And it happened, so now we have to hope that he doesn't have to stay in his hotel room for the rest of his school trip.
When I get back to the hotel, I'm about to head back up to my and Weisz's room before Gabriel stops me. "Ah, I see you went to my favourite cafe," he says, looking at the logo."The crème brûlée from there is the best. Did you get it?"
"No, I got the eclairs instead," I say. "Weisz loves eclairs and he has been stuck in the hotel room all day, so I thought this word cheer him up."
"Well, maybe you and I should go there one day to get the crème brûlée," Gabriel says. "Alone."
The way he added 'alone' made me worried that there is some ulterior motive to saying we should go to the cafe. And it's an ulterior motive I'm very afraid of. This whole time, I thought Gabriel had just been helping me out with questions I have because he's the tour guide. Now I'm worried that wasn't his only intention.
The best thing I can do right now, hopefully, is act dumb and see if he just drops it, or see if acting dumb makes it clear that I'm wrong about my theory. "I'll probably go there tomorrow with Weisz if he can leave his hotel room. He hasn't tried it yet, so he can try it there."
Please be wrong, please be wrong.
"Okay, if not the cafe, then maybe you and I can go somewhere else," Gabriel says. He places his hand on my arm, which is exactly what makes me realize that I was right about the theory. He's literally asking me out right now.
I push his hand off of my arm and take a step back. "You know I have a boyfriend. Even if I didn't, you're in your thirties. I'm only seventeen."
"What your boyfriend doesn't know won't hurt him," Gabriel says, completely ignoring the fact that I also brought up our age gap. That I'm a teenager while he's a full grown adult.
"You're insane. That's a clear no, by the way." I walk away, not wanting to hear anything else Gabriel has to say. I just feel extremely grossed out by him. I regret ever going to him when I had a question about the city. I should have asked literally anyone else, or even searched online for what I was looking for.
I don't say anything about it when I get back to the hotel room. The last thing I want to do is to upset Weisz when he had already been feeling down from having to stay in the hotel room all day.
"I got food," I say as soon as I walk into the hotel room. "And some dessert as well. Eclairs, specifically."
Weisz sits up on the bed. "Ooh, perfect." Thankfully, I'm good enough at hiding emotions, most of the time, so he doesn't seem to realize that something is wrong. I hope to keep it that way. Weisz has struggled a lot the past few months. He deserves to have a carefree trip where he doesn't have to worry about anything.
