chapter 9: weisz wants to unalive someone
~weisz~
As soon as I wake up in the morning, I have a feeling something is wrong with Reno. He's usually wide awake before my, waiting for me to wake up to see if I'd be willing to head down to the lobby for breakfast. This time, he's still in bed. He's awake, but he's curled up under the blankets as he looks at his phone.
"Are you okay?" I ask.
"Mhm," Reno murmurs, though the sound he made instead of just vocally telling me proves otherwise.
"Reno, I can tell something's wrong," I say. "What's up?"
Reno is silent for a bit before he says, "I'm just not feeling well."
"Oh. Is it contagious?"
"Huh? Oh, no. It's just... Feeling tired, I guess. Probably not wanting to join the tours today."
"That's okay," I say. "You stayed with me yesterday, so I'll stay with you today."
Reno sighs. "I don't want you to stay back again, Weisz. You should still join the tours."
"It's no big deal if I stay back."
"Yeah, it is. You're the one who was looking forward to this trip the most. It took a lot of convincing for your parents to allow you to come here. You shouldn't let the trip go to waste just because I want to stay behind. I'll be fine alone."
"Are you sure?" I ask. Reno nods. I really don't want to leave Reno here alone, but I know how stubborn he can be. If I insist I stay behind, he will probably end up pushing me out of the hotel room and locking me out so I would have no choice but to join the tours.
Reno doesn't even want to get out of bed to get some breakfast, so I ask if he wants me to bring him anything. He doesn't want anything, which makes me worried that this is more than him just feeling tired.
I don't know if he would tell me if I ask him about it, though. He tends to keep personal things to himself. I'll just have to figure out another way if something else is actually wrong or if he really is just tired.
I decide to stay with Reno until a few minutes before everyone is meant to met up in the lobby, still giving me a bit of time to eat breakfast. I definitely shouldn't be skipping any meals if I want to stay healthy.
None of my friends are in my tour group, so I do have to ask one of the teachers if I can switch since one of the conditions for my parents letting me come here is make sure I have a friend with me at all times just in case something happens. They all know how to handle my health and keep an eye out for warning signs.
I end up moving to Amelia and Jane's tour group for the day. They are a bit concerned Reno isn't joining the tours for the day, but I tell him that everything is okay and he's just tired.
I'm not sure if I believe it myself.
Halfway through the tour, we get to a park to take a break. Jane, Amelia, and I find a place to sit on the grass. Jane opens her backpack, pulling out a variety of snacks; granola bars, oranges, trail mix, and some beef jerky. She lets us have some, saying that the reason she brought it was to share.
"So Weisz," Amelia says after she finishes chewing the bite of the granola bar she took. "Did Reno bring his leather jacket?"
I glare at her. "Don't bring that up. And remind me to tell Reno to stop telling people I have a leather jacket fantasy."
