"Fine, I'll tell you... Carter is my one year old son," she explained. Both of their jaws dropped as they fell silent. Tony shook his head, but she continued. "He's not with me though; he lives back in England with my grandmother. It's a long story that I don't like telling, but since it's obvious that you two won't stop, Tony can tell you when I'm not around. I don't feel like talking anymore." She said softly. She turned and left the main house. She went into their room in the west wing. Lowering herself to the bed, she nibbled on a carrot and sighed. Tony came in a second after her.
"You didn't have to tell them," Tony said sympathetically. Kyndall laughed once humorlessly.
"Right, and just wait for them to hear Brian's version of the story? I would rather they hear the truth from us than a lie from someone else," she replied. Tony didn't know what else to say, so he sat on the bed and just held her, and held her. He kissed her forehead lightly.
"We can always go back to California... whenever you want to," Tony said softly. Kyndall shook her head.
"I really want your family to like me," she whispered back. Tony stopped rocking to look into her tropical green eyes.
"They're going to like you regardless because I love you," he said confidently. Kyndall sighed and stood up.
"Did you tell them?" she asked. Tony shook his head.
"I wanted you to be the one to say it. It's your story... not mine. That way the story is told the way you want it to," Tony explained. Kyndall shook her head.
"I don't think I can say anything. I need you to tell them," she pleaded. He sighed and paused a moment before he finally agreed.
"Okay, just tell me when," he replied. He looked out the window towards the other houses. "I can already tell Brian is going to be even more trouble than last time; if that's even possible," he muttered more to himself that Kyndall. He looked at his tropical girlfriend beside him. "We should really discuss Carter when we get back. It's become a... main topic lately. You should rethink having him with you. I just want to see you happy though," he said to her. Kyndall smiled back sadly.
"My happiness doesn't matter anymore. Let's just pretend like nothing ever happened," Kyndall suggested. Tony nodded.
"My mom should have lunch ready for us soon. We should head back," Tony said. Kyndall nodded; anything to get her mind off of Carter before she started crying. They headed back to the main kitchen and sat at the table as the other members of Tony's family started to come out of their hiding places for lunch. Once everyone was seated at the table, Angie brought out the lunches. Everyone's was different. The kids had peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, Michael and Brian ate stakes, the N twins and Tony had burgers, Katerina had a turkey sandwich, and Kyndall got grilled Salmon with mashed potatoes and broccoli. After thanking Angie, everyone dug in. It seemed like Angie knew just what each person wanted; even Kyndall. The N twins and Brian cast glances at Kyndall periodically. The air fell awkward with silence and tension. Kyndall noticed. After another bite of her broccoli, she set her fork down in frustration and looked at them.
"Just say it," Kyndall said. She looked at Brian. "If you have something to say, just say it." She said. Brian looked at his food silently. Kyndall looked around the table and sighed. She scooted her chair back and stood up. "Excuse me," she muttered. She left the table and went to the barn. She walked down the rows of horses and looked around. She saw something under the hay and moved around the saddles to look at it. The saddle rack wobbled before the saddles fell on top of her, knocking her back into a hidden spot in the hay. The horn of the saddle hit her hard in the forehead. She blacked out with the saddles and hay hiding her. Tony set his fork down and looked at Brian.
