Ryder sighed at the picture of him taking Kyndall inside. He put his phone on silent and put his phone down. He hated how people could just snap pictures a street away and think they knew the whole story. Hawk was something that he read for information, but at the same time, it was annoying. What was the point in listening to stupid gossip anyway? Things were always being blown out of proportion. After asking permission, Ryder wrote his name in shaded bubble letters across Kyndall's whole cast. Kyndall laughed and shook her head at him. He truly did amuse her. Kyndall wasn't used to guys being sincerely nice to her just because. In the past, they only acted romantic when they wanted something. Kyndall and Ryder played Candyland. They found out that they both had that favorite game in common. After a while, Ryder took Kyndall home. Kyndall smiled as she got ready for bed. It had been the best worst first day she had ever had.
I spy with my Hawk eye, Prince Charming checking on his damsel in the courtyard of Remington's this morning. With a single rose in hand, he went straight to her, never looking at his ex Queen. Dark Beauty already knows that Queen B doesn't look good in envy. Who knows? Maybe Queen B will let this go and put this all behind her. Maybe she'll just try to be Dark Beauty's real friend, but then again, maybe the sun will disappear. And what's to come for Prince Charming and his Dark Beauty now? Only time will tell, Hawk.
Kyndall got out of the limo and started walking towards the school. She smiled when she saw Ryder. He held out a single rose for her. She hugged him before she took it, smiling. They walked into the courtyard. Kyndall stopped near the gate. Ryder stopped along with her. She looked at the rose then back up to him curiously.
"What's this for?" she asked. He smiled and placed his hands in his front pockets.
"It's a 'sorry I screwed up your first day by contributing to your broken arm' rose," he shrugged. He reached in his backpack and pulled out a silver sequenced sling as well. It had her name stitched in cursive on the front in tropical green. He held it out. "I also got you this. I got my dad's seamstress to custom make this as well. I figured you probably don't want the plain navy blue color. Plus, this green matches your eyes. " He said. She smiled.
"My arm isn't broken entirely, it's fractured. And you didn't have to do that," she shook her head. He smiled.
"I know. I just... I don't know. Here let me help," he said. She set her backpack down and took off her sling as he held her arm up so it wouldn't move. He helped her get the new sling on and picked up her backpack for her. She looked at the sling and smiled.
"It's perfect, and just my style. I love sequence. How did you know?" she asked. He smiled and shrugged.
"I took a wild guess," he joked. She laughed and looked over to see Brett and the Barbies staring at her. She cleared her throat and looked down, the smile not as apparent on her face. She looked back up to Ryder as he spoke. "Oh, your dad asked me if you could ride to the office with me after school today. I think he thinks you're going to self-destruct if you're left to yourself," Ryder laughed. Kyndall fakely laughed. It was rough at her last school and it caused her to self-destruct. She thought her dad probably did think she was going to self-destruct again if she didn't make a few more friends here. Brett glared at Kyndall as she saw Ryder showering her with gifts. Jealousy coursed through her veins. She was steadily thinking of ways to get rid of her as the Barbies talked about the latest on Hawk Watch... the one about Ryder and Kyndall.
"Okay, so meet me here after school is over? Oh, I have to go put my stuff in my locker. It'll take me forever and I should probably get started," Kyndall joked. He laughed before he slung her backpack over his shoulder and walked with her inside the school. He put her stuff up and even helped her get everything to her first period. The teacher graciously wrote him a note so he wouldn't be counted tardy for class. With a quick goodbye to Kyndall, he went over to Remington's boys' side. Someone always volunteered to help Kyndall with her stuff every period. Finally, school ended. Ryder rushed to get to the courtyard before Kyndall. Brett saw him and smiled slyly. Fixing her face into a worried frown, she walked up to Ryder in a way she thought was sexy.
"Ryder, I hope you know that I am sorry. I didn't want Kyndall to get hurt; that was never my intention. I really am sorry, and I want us to go back to the way we were before all of this," she said. He looked at her emotionlessly. He felt nothing for her anymore.
"You're sorry? Did you apologize to her?" he asked. She hesitated a bit.
"Yes, but Kyndall wouldn't forgive me," Brett lied. Ryder laughed humorlessly.
"Now I know you're lying because I was with her yesterday and you didn't call or show up or anything. Plus, she's already forgiven you. I tried to get her to tell her dad what really happened, but she refused. She said it was pointless to fight with someone if what they did was already forgiven, so she told her dad that the saddle broke and she fell. You just lied, and I don't want to be with a liar who only cares about herself. I told you Brett, we're done," he said. She let out a breath and looked at him in disbelief. His words stung. She knew it was a lost cause but she still had feelings for him.
"What about the Masked Ball?" she asked.
"Well that's an easy one. We're not going together," he answered simply. She looked at him shocked and a bit crushed before she hesitated and walked away. She went to her band of Barbies as Kyndall came out of the school. The Barbies all fakely comforted Brett. Kyndall smiled and she made her way to Ryder. He smiled and took her bag.
"Hey I saw Brett, what was that all about?" Kyndall asked curiously. Ryder glanced over to where Brett was glaring at Kyndall.
"She lied to try to get back to me. She said she was sorry for hurting you," he explained. Kyndall looked at him curiously.
"How do you know she wasn't telling the truth?" she asked. Ryder looked back to Kyndall.
"Because she said she apologized to you and that you wouldn't forgive her," he said. Brett looked back towards the Barbies who were looking at Ryder and Kyndall curiously and nosily now. Brett sighed and rolled her eyes before she snapped her fingers in front of their faces.
"Girls," she said trying to catch their attention. They snapped out of it and looked at a waiting Brett. Brett crossed her arms and looked over at Kyndall quickly. "We have to get rid of her. She's only been here for two days and she's already ruining everything. She's taking my boyfriend, ruining my dance, getting closer to being an A-lister here..."
"I don't know B. Dolly is new, and foreign. She's really nice. She's friendly and she gets along with everyone. Don't forget she's unbelievably gorgeous, and now that she has a cast, everyone is really sympathetic towards her too. She's practically a saint," Lacey said. Brett glared at her.
"Then we're really going to have to try harder to dig up some dirt about her. Everyone has a past, and I'm going to find out what her deal is. No one is just this nice. No one just forgives me after I've hurt them, especially physically. She's not a saint; she's just hiding something. She's not perfect... no one is," Brett said glaring back over to Kyndall.
