Ryder turned his attention to Kyndall in the limo. Kyndall looked at him confused. She had heard their loud argument.
"She cut the stirrup?" she asked in disbelief. Ryder nodded. She sighed and rested her head back. Kyndall looked over to him, her tears still apparent. "It really hurts," she breathed. Ryder scooted closer to her and pulled her into him gently. She hesitated before she rested her head on his shoulder and sobbed quietly. As much as her arm hurt, she was glad Ryder was there. He seemed to genuinely care for her.
"I know; I'm sorry," he said softly. Kyndall closed her eyes and held her arm gently. When they finally reached the hospital, Ryder helped her into the emergency room. The doctor saw to her quickly. After numbing her arm and x-raying it, a light green cast was put on her arm. The doctor also gave her a navy blue sling. Ryder walked with her out to his limo. He opened the door for her and she thanked him.
"Are you dropping me off at home?" Kyndall asked him groggily from the medication. He shook his head.
"My father is over at the office with your father. I go over there every day after school. I thought you might want to tell your dad what... happened today," Ryder said. Kyndall sighed and shook her head.
"I'm not going to tell on Brett. I've already forgiven what she did to me because I'm not going to let it get to me and rule my life. It's pointless to fight with someone who is already forgiven. Plus, I have a feeling that she won't stop until she's had the last word, and that's not worth a fight," Kyndall said emotionlessly. Ryder looked at her confused.
"She sprained your arm Dolly. You're just going to let that slide?" he asked confused. Kyndall shrugged.
"She already doesn't like me. You saw what she did just because I was friends with you. I don't want to find out what she would do if I snitched," Kyndall explained. Ryder sighed and nodded as he understood. They rode in comfortable silence to the R&D Office. Before they got out, Kyndall stopped him.
"Thanks for everything Ryder. It means a lot to me... because this has been a crazy first day," Kyndall smiled softly. Ryder smiled as well.
"Yeah, I'm sorry about that. When you said she didn't like you, I thought you meant she didn't know you, not that she actually was out to get you," Ryder apologized. Kyndall shook her head.
"It's okay, you were just trying to help," Kyndall said. He smiled and hugged her softly. She jumped softly at the motion before she put her good arm around him too.
"Will you promise me something?" he asked quietly. Kyndall smiled at him curiously. "Promise me you won't stoop to her level. You are honestly the only thing... pure at Remington's. All the other girls are only worried about who's the most popular, and who has the most money," he said. Kyndall smiled.
"That's not me... and it never will be," Kyndall promised. She didn't mention how that wasn't her anymore. She was here for change after all. She wasn't going to be the same as she was in London. It wasn't worth it.
They walked up to the office labeled Rosewood. Kyndall knocked on the door lightly. Ryder started to walk away but Kyndall grabbed his arm at the last minute. She suddenly didn't want to go in the office alone. She wanted Ryder to go with her.
"Go with me," she said softly. He looked at the door before he smiled softly and nodded. Ryder was a little surprised that she wanted him around after what had just happened. He was sure she would never want to see him again, but she was continuing to surprise him. She walked in and smiled at her father. Ryder walked in a step behind her.
"Kyndall darling, I was wondering when you were going to get here. I was just about to... What happened to your arm?" he asked as he stood and moved from behind his desk. Kyndall's father was a tall muscular man with a bald head and a mustache. He was lightly colored and had light brown eyes that he inherited from his Italian mother. Kyndall looked to Ryder before looking back to her father.
"Umm, I... fell off of Jasper at the stables today," she lied shakily.
"But you're a great rider, how did you fall darling?" he asked. He crossed his arms over his chest. He didn't buy it. He knew his daughter; she wouldn't just... fall. The horse would have had to have been spooked to the point where he would rear up, but he knew his daughter's fearless horse, Jasper, too. He didn't spook over practically anything. He was calm, and he loved Kyndall, it's why he chose him for her. He pushed his glasses further up his nose as he waited for her answer.
"The stirrup broke. That reminds me, I need another saddle," she said trying to change the subject. Mr. Rosewood nodded before he looked to the other person standing in the room.
"Ryder, it's a pleasure seeing you here. Have you met my daughter yet?" Mr. Rosewood asked Ryder. Kyndall laughed.
"Dad, he's the one who took me to the hospital," Kyndall smiled. She grabbed an apple off of his desk and sat in his chair. "You ready to go yet Daddy?" Kyndall asked in her delightful British accent. Her father looked to her.
"I have to work late tonight Kyndall. I won't be going home for a few more hours," her father frowned. She sighed and stood up. He looked at Ryder before smiling back at her. "Why don't you hang out with Ryder today, if he doesn't mind?" Mr. Rosewood suggested. Kyndall looked at him quizzically before she shrugged and looked to Ryder. Ryder blushed lightly and shrugged.
"I was just going to go home and relax. Kyndall is welcome to join me if it's okay with you, Mr. Rosewood," Ryder said. Kyndall watched as her dad smiled and nodded. Kyndall gave her dad a quick goodbye before she followed Ryder back out to the limo. In the limo, Kyndall turned to Ryder.
"I'm sorry about my dad. He can be a bit pushy and forward at times," she apologized. Ryder smiled as he chuckled.
"All he did was suggest that we hang out. I honestly don't mind. Plus, this gives me an opportunity to get to know you better," Ryder smiled. Ryder led Kyndall into his house by her hand. They went up the elevator to emerge in the living room. Ryder changed into lounging clothes before he settled down on the couch with Kyndall as they watched a show on the television. They were interrupted when Ryder's phone beeped. It was a new Hawk's Eye post.
