Calum stared at the coffee cup in his best friends hands, grinning widely at his her. "I fucking knew it" he announced triumphantly, making Katherine roll her eyes as she blushed madly. "This is fucking legendary, put this in the history books as the day Katherine Heally fell in love" he added quickly after, a laugh escaping his lips at the thought of it, of someone stealing his redheaded friends heart.

The boy had been the first one to know of the news and took it like her mum wouldve, if she was there, of course. And it was times like this where she was glad he, out of all people, ended up being her best friend.

Calum wrapped an arm around her, sighing as the two of them walked down the crowded hallways to old Mrs. Reynolds' class, which, to everyone in her first periods (or any of her periods, Calum had to add) sadness, was just a few halls down from their locker, so it was the usual quick and quiet walk most of the time. But, as Katherine had said, today was different and the two of them were buzzing with conversation.

"So, do you feel the same?" He asked curiously, wiggling his eyebrows at his friend hopefully.

The red headed girl frowned, and mumbled almost inaudibly, "maybe a little bit" she stated simply as if it was the most normal thing in the world because it was, well, to her at least.

The phrase for Calum, on the other hand, was enough to make him jump for joy. "My baby's growing up!" He exclaimed, engulfing the shorter girl in an awkward, yet still motherly, side embrace, making Katherine smile widely as she rolled her eyes.

"Calm down, mum" she retorted, making the kiwi boy scoff and let her go immediately, his arms folding across his chest in faux annoyance.

"Excuse you, let me just bask in my happiness for you for just one fucking second, Katherine," he stated, rolling his eyes playfully as the two of them entered their brightly lit first period. "Is that so much to ask for?"

"Yeah, yeah, whatever you say," Katherine snorted, making her way to her usual seat behind the hyperactive, resting bitch faced boy she came to adore over their many years of being in each others presence.

Almost immediately, as if it was a normal every day occurrence, her grey eyes anxiously scanned the room in search of the familiar pair of blonde hair and tall, broad frame she had grown surprisingly fond of, her heart almost beating out of her chest as he walked into the room with Michael by his side as always, talking and laughing together like usual, which made sense.

The two of them were practically inseparable from day one forward. Ever since Michael moved to town in third grade and scared everyone with his long ass emo fringe, Luke never wanted to hang out with anyone else. It's like they had some sort of weird ass connection that just clicked from the moment they met. And Katherine swore it was because their fringes and assholeish personalities were compatible.

Luke sat beside the redheaded girl nervously, fumbling with his fingers as he took out his things from his backpack, like a his well decorated and creative binder filled with pictures of all the bands he listened to and a purple mechanical pencil with various smiley faces on it, making Katherine smile. He was such a fucking dork.

The bell rang loudly, practically shaking the room as if its sole purpose that morning was to wake everyone up. And Katherine didn't understand why she was so excited for Luke to talk to her, why she got her hopes up for this stupid boy, but she couldn't control it. She liked talking to him, she liked hearing his horrible jokes and the way he laughed and cried during movies that nearly full grown seventeen year old boy should probably not cry about. In fact, when she really admitted it to herself, she just liked Luke. She liked everything about him, and when he said nothing, not even a simple hello to her that morning, she couldn't help but feel even a little bit disappointed.
