Jenna was knee-deep in the details of her presentation for the Maluma Project. She had been preparing for weeks, meticulously crafting every aspect to ensure they would impress the potential client. This project was crucial—not just for her career but for the future of her entire company. She could already feel the weight of the moment pressing on her shoulders.
As she focused intensely on her PowerPoint slides, the soft sounds of her fingers dancing across the keyboard seemed to blend into the background. It was only when her door creaked open that she realized how engrossed she had become.
"Hey, someone is here to see you," her assistant chimed in, reluctantly breaking the silence. "I told them you were busy, but they're not leaving until they talk to you." Jenna rolled her eyes, a smile tugging at her lips as she thought of Kayla. Her persistence was both admirable and exhausting; Kayla was the type who wouldn't let anything go until she got what she wanted. "It's okay," Jenna replied, trying to keep her concentration. "Let them in, please."
The door swung open, and Jenna, still fixated on her screen, called out, "Kayla, give me a second, okay? Just make yourself at home." She continued typing, confident that her assistant would settle into one of the chairs and scroll through her phone for a few minutes. But the voice that responded made Jenna's heart skip a beat. "Kayla? Who's that?"
Feeling the sudden shift in atmosphere, Jenna paused mid-click, her fingers hovering over the keyboard. She slowly raised her gaze from her laptop, and her breath caught in her throat. Before her stood Noelle, the last person she expected to see."Noelle," Jenna finally managed, surprise mingling with disbelief.
Noelle looked at Jenna with a smirk as she strolled into the office. "What are you doing here?" Jenna asked, irritation creeping into her voice. Something twisted in her gut as she felt the familiar chill that Noelle always seemed to bring. Jenna couldn't quite figure out Noelle's motives, but she had learned long ago that they rarely had good intentions, especially when it came to Arias
"This is such a nice office," Noelle said, glancing around with feigned admiration, her eyes lingering on the pictures lining the walls. Jenna resisted the urge to roll her eyes."Thanks. But seriously, why are you here?" Jenna pressed. "Awww, can't I stop by and see how you're doing?" Noelle replied with a fake sweetness in her tone.
Jenna leaned back in her chair, crossing her arms defiantly. "Noelle, you and I aren't friends. If I'm not mistaken, you tried to get me hurt back in the day."Noelle's laughter rang out, a harsh sound that filled the room. "Let's cut the BS," she said, her smile fading as she leaned in closer. "A little birdy told me you and Arias have been hanging around again.
"That is none of your business," Jenna shot back, firmness in her voice.Noelle's demeanor shifted, mock amusement giving way to a more sinister glint in her eyes. "Leave him alone, or else I'm going to make sure you feel every bit of my wrath," she warned, her tone dripping with malice.
