Tabitha
Oh my God, it's such a long drive from Taft to Long Beach by yourself.
I complain to myself as I pull in but Jess comes running out looking worried.
Where have you been? You should've been here an hour ago.
I groan.
I know sorry. I had to stop for gas and I got a flat so that slowed me down to. But I'm here now and I'm in one piece so no worries. Now, I have to get a new tire or have this one plugged before I go home.
She crosses her arms over her chest while she looks me over then.
Okay Tabby. Don't worry about that right now. Your mom called wanting me to give you a makeover. She wants you back to the girl you were when we played together as children. However, now that I've seen you... I don't know if that's even possible. But, you're my cousin so we're gonna do what we can.
I frown and start grabbing my bags.
You know I didn't ask for this Jess. You don't have to do it. I can easily go home and tell my mom it was a wash, that we just couldn't make it work.
She looks at me more determined then.
I don't think so. You may have given up on yourself but I won't. Now, let's get you settled.
I shake my head and follow her in. I unpack my things as she starts telling me her rules.
Okay so while you're here I don't care what you do, but I do have one rule. No drugs! You're seventeen and I'm sure you can handle yourself on the streets. However, if you decide to bring a guy home just remember to use protection. I don't want you going home pregnant and abortions aren't cheap and can scar you for life.
I just ignore her sex comment and stack my suit cases in the corner by the closet. I'm not concerned too about guys. They don't talk to me but if by chance I do meet a someone and we do have sex and I get pregnant. I wouldn't get an abortion. His ass would either be there for it or he wouldn't. But I'm a virgin, so I don't see that happening.
Okay let's see what you brought to wear.
I look at my clothes quickly noticing my mother took the liberty of buying all new clothes for me but kept everything black. I look at Jess who she frowns at me.
Let me guess. Your mom packed for you?
I huff.
You guessed right. She made sure my things were packed before I got home from school. The only things I saw were my swimsuit and a few pairs of shorts and a couple tops.
She laughs knowingly.
Okay, well let's go get you some better clothes.
We walk to her car and head out to the store. Over the next several hours we buy a few new outfits that she thinks I look hot in but they're much better than my mom's choices, so I don't complain as much.
Does it have to be so...
Whatever, you're seventeen. Hey, I'm only twenty-one and I've already learned that you have to look good, to feel good about yourself.
I know she has to work in about an hour and I'll be on my own a lot this summer but I'm sure I'll be just fine. Then she throws me a curve ball.
Oh yeah. I do have parties on the beach from time to time. Just a few models and some of the guys brave enough to actually talk to us. If anyone tries anything, just tell them to get lost or come get me.
