Wriothesley felt like he was quite literally going to explode with all the information he was being told. Sigewinne had stopped by his office once he gave the clear that Chronie was out cold for the time being, and when she explained your plan to him, tension immediately seeped into his bones.
Your life was already at risk; why in the hell were you trying to double the chances of you dying already?
"That's too far." He bit out, glaring down at Sigewinne. He wasn't mad at her in the slightest--rather, he was simply questioning her lenience with your mission. "I'm aware of that exit point. But trying to escape from all the active surveillance surrounding the fortress, and then avoiding the Gardes on the surface is too dangerous for her."
"It's not like we can exactly think of anything else..." Sigewinne said, her voice soft. "I understand what she's going to put herself through, but you know her better than I. She's going through with this, regardless of the consequences."
He pinched the bridge of his nose, letting out a ragged sigh. "I know."
"Is Chronie still asleep?" Sigewinne whispered, her gaze averting to his door.
Wriothesley cleared his throat, his face hardening at the mere mention of her name. "...Yeah."
The room was tense with unspoken words and a sense of lingering danger. Sigewinne kept her gaze on Wriothesley, while he stared blankly at his desk. Neither of them knew what to say; there wasn't technically anything that could be said.
"I'll do need to check in with Y/N." Sigewinne finally said, breaking the silence. "She plans on leaving tonight."
"Tonight?!" Wriothesley shot up from his chair, his voice raising. "Why in the hell is she doing this tonight of all times?!"
She quickly shushed him, her ears perking up at the mere intensity of his voice. "I don't know! She told me that it had to be tonight!"
His fists balled as he slumped back down in his seat, running a hand down his face. "Tonight is routine maintenance. She'll get caught trying to do something like this!"
"What? I thought that wasn't for another three days...?"
His head lolled back as he let out a groan, trying to reign in his growing frustration. "There were a few faulty wires found down in one of the production zones earlier today. I decided to go ahead and schedule the maintenance for today."
If Sigewinne cursed, she probably would have just then. Her shoulders fell as well as her face, the color completely draining from her skin. "Oh no..."
Wriothesley's mind flickered through the many worst-possible-case scenarios at the thought of you getting caught by a Garde; and it wasn't just any Garde, it was one from the surface that had no idea what was going on down in the fortress. And the Gardes above didn't take crime lightly like the ones he was in charge of, especially since they answered from Clorinde.
"Damnit..." Wriothesley groaned, pinching the bridge of his nose. "Where is she now?"
"Pankration Ring." Sigewinne replied, "I have a few expecting patients, so I can't go there myself..."
"And I'm being watched by some of these damn Gardes Chronie's got tailing me..." He muttered, feeling defeat wash over him.
The tension in the room grew once more, silence returning. It wasn't until Sigewinne's eyes widened at the realization of something when she looked back at him. "...This can be a good thing."
The defeat and vulnerability was written all over Wriothesley's face as he didn't reply to her, but she silently understood that he was listening. "...What if we told one of the Gardes what's going on?"
