❄️
"That's the best excuse you could come up with?"
You were now sitting up on your own after drinking a lot of water, your strength slowly returning from the cold leaving your body. Wriothesley was still unconscious, and it made you worry a bit, but you tried to brush it off and focus on the problem at hand.
"I don't like being questioned." Sigewinne admitted, her ears dropping. "I work well under pressure in the medical field, but outside of that, I turn to putty."
"Clearly." You commented, taking another sip of water. "I think we should focus on finding a solid alibi for him, though."
"Right, right." Sigewinne nodded, feeling a tad bit embarrassed. "What he did was wrong, and I don't want to be the one to defend his actions... but he's my friend."
"It's okay." You said, "I'll come up with something. We can just go off with what Clorinde said earlier."
"About his fights?"
You nodded. "Yeah. We can use that to our advantage... he just has to wake up before she comes back."
"That's what's worrying me." Sigewinne said, looking over at Wriothesley. "I expected him to wake up well before you, because he's used to colder temperatures. It's been four hours now..."
You followed her gaze, mimicking her expression. Why wasn't he waking up? It wasn't like him to be passed out for so long; he even managed to wake up after only a few hours of sleep everyday. So what could possibly be going on?
"...I remember when I found him in his room, he was in this weird trance." You spoke, your voice soft and twinged with worry as you recalled that moment. "I couldn't get him to snap out of it. He just... stood there."
"...Psychosis." Sigewinne said, "His past must have caught up to him again."
Your frown deepened, the memory of when he had told you what he did when he was young lingering on your mind. Killing your parents was one thing, but living with that trauma was another. You could tell he would always try to hide his emotions behind that facade he puts up, but deep down, it would haunt him.
You sighed, closing your eyes. "So if he does wake up, there's a good chance he'll be like that again?"
She nodded, her gaze solemn. "I'm afraid so. When I first came to the fortress and got close to him, it happened during one of his fights in the Pankration Ring."
"And how did he get out of it...?" You asked.
"He did it on his own." She replied, "I tried numerous solutions, but none of them worked. It just so happened that one day, he worked it out and went back to his usual self."
Your shoulders sagged, the situation weighing down heavily on you. You hated that he had to deal with this, and that you had no way of helping him. He had been dealing with this for a long time as it seemed, which made your heart ache at the thought.
"Do you remember anything right before the fortress was destroyed?" Sigewinne asked, looking back at you.
"No." You responded, shaking your head. "The last thing I remember was... hugging him."
"Something had to have triggered him to create that shard that encased the two of you." She spoke, "It was strong enough to protect and keep the both of you safe for an entire week."
You tried to think, tried to jog your memory, but everything was a blur. It was surreal to you that you spent seven days encased in an ice block underneath the ocean floor, but you knew to never be surprised around Wriothesley. It felt like you were constantly finding out new things about him everyday.
