"What made you get him to normal?" Sigewinne asked, watching as the both of you sat side by side in the bed he had occupied.

You gave a small scowl, your fists balling on your lap as you tried to dodge the question. "I don't want to talk about it."

"She begged me." Wriothesley said nonchalantly, "How could I ignore something like that?"

"I did not!" You retorted, punching his arm. You were already aggravated that he pulled that stunt on you just moments before your return, especially since you had fell for it once. You were starting to have doubts about ever trying to help him in the first place, even though you had technically did so by accident.

"Well, it doesn't matter right now." Sigewinne said, a relieved expression on her face. "I'm just glad you're back!"

"Good to be back." Wriothesley said, looking at your grumpy appearance. "And what's this I hear about the Gardes having some evidence on me?"

"Oh, yes." Sigewinne cleared her throat, placing her hands on her hips. "I'll just have to be straightforward with you. Chronie's blood was all over your clothes and body and before I cleaned you up. They haven't identified her since she's been under the radar, so we have to create an alibi for you."

"Right. Forgot about that." He said, his tone lowering a bit. "I'll just mention I was in the ring, per usual. Shouldn't arise any suspicion, considering I frequent there. Roussimoff can easily justify me if I tell him to do so."

"The problem is that they've already asked all the Gardes about what had happened." Sigewinne continued, "And they all know Chronie is behind the destruction of the fortress. But there aren't any traces of her remains, and they don't have a clear motive either, so any minute now they'll return to check in on you and ask you some questions."

"I've been through worse." Wriothesley sighed, "I'll have it handled."

You grumbled under your breath, causing him to raise a brow at you. "Is my future wife upset about something?"

"Don't do that!" You barked, shoving at him. "You know exactly what I'm upset about!"

He chuckled, which was a sound you hadn't realized you missed hearing. "I don't think I do. Enlighten me."

You wanted to strangle and swing at him at the same time, your jaw tightly clenched as you glared daggers into his eyes. "I suggest you start sleeping with one eye open."

"And I suggest you stop testing me, ma chérie."

Sigewinne watched as the two of you bickered back and forth, a heartwarming smile spreading across her lips. The past few weeks had certainly been entirely too much for her to handle, and for the both of you as well, so it felt nice for things to finally have found their place once more.

"Take it easy." She spoke, breaking up your banter. "You're both still recovering. I need to prep some more medicine for you, Y/N, and Wriothesley, you need to eat what I made for you."

A look of disappointment flashed across his face as he glanced at the strangely colored liquid inside of the bowl that rested next to him, a sigh escaping his lips. "Can I not just enjoy a cup of tea?"

Sigewinne huffed, her cheeks puffing out at his rejection. "For the millionth time, what I make is good for you! Ask Y/N! She's had plenty of my meals before!"

"Listen to her, your highness." You mocked, "It's really tasty. So full of healthy herbs and veggies..."

You could see the disgust forming on his face, which gave you a wave of satisfaction in response. "Yeah... no."

"Fine!" Sigewinne puffed, "I'll just have to hook you up to a feeding tube and force it down that way."

"Alright, alright..." Wriothesley finally mumbled, hesitantly grabbing the bowl. You watched as he brought it to his lips, managing to force the liquid down. You gave a sly smile, noticing his attempt at making it seem like the taste didn't bother him.

"Good boy." You teased, patting his back. "Need to be burped?"

"Keep testing me." He said in reply, shoving the bowl away from him. "I've got something waiting for you when this is all done with."

You were about to give a snarky response, but knocks were sounded at the doors to the room. The three of you looked back, watching as Clorinde and one other Garde walked inside. "What a relief. You're awake. And seem to be in good health, I presume."

"They both are." Sigewinne said, stepping to the side. "It won't be long before they're fully recovered."

"That's good." Clorinde said, stopping short in front of the both of you. "In the meantime, I'd like to ask if it is alright that we interrogate you concerning the matter of the fortress."

Wriothesley hummed, clearing his throat. "That's fine. I'm curious about some things as well that have transpired while I've been out."

"Are you able to walk?" She asked.

"Not paralyzed." He replied. "We can converse in the usual interrogation rooms upstairs."

"Good." Clorinde nodded, looking back at you. "I'd like to ask you some questions as well when we're done."

You swallowed and nodded your head, keeping your composure. "Alright."

Wriothesley stood up from the bed, his hand finding the small of your back for a moment in a gesture of reassurance. You watched as he followed Clorinde and the other Garde up the stairs out of the room before the doors closed shut, letting out a sigh at his absence.

"It'll be alright." Sigewinne said, noticing your nervous expression. "Wriothesley knows how to handle situations like this."

"He better." You muttered, staring at the ring on your finger. "I'm tired of getting caught up into everything because of him."

She chuckled, nodding her head. "I'm just glad the worst is over. We can go back to our usual routines after the fortress is rebuilt."

"They're seriously rebuilding it?" You asked, "Meaning I'll be stuck there again?"

"I believe Monsieur Neuvillette had some strings pulled regarding your sentence." Sigewinne said, placing a finger to her lip. "Either it was shortened or dropped completely."

Your eyes widened at that information, your mouth hanging agape for a moment. "And you just casually forgot to mention that???"

"It slipped my mind!" She protested, "There was so much going on that I didn't think about telling you..."

While it was both a surprise and relief that the Chief Justice would do something like that for you, you had a feeling that it had to do with your mother. You remembered Wriothesley mentioning he had some familiarity with her, and considering everything you've done and all he knows, you can't say it's entirely too shocking that he would do that. But then again, you'd never tell anyone about it. That would certainly piss off the wrong crowd.

"...What happened to her?" You asked, your voice soft.

"She's safe." Sigewinne said with a smile, "I promised you that I'd take care of her. The box is back in the room I'm staying in, safe and sound."

You smiled, appreciating her keeping her word. Even though there were a lot of things that have happened these past months and year, you could easily sweep it all under the rug knowing that your mind and heart could finally rest easy. You could do the one thing you came to Fontaine for and move on, living your life as she had wished you to do.

"...I think I'll wish her goodbye here." You said, smiling to yourself.

"Oh?" Sigewinne spoke, "Why is that?"

"This is her home." You sighed, a sense of content washing over you. "And it's mine, too."
