Shrieks exploded from the hallway outside of the downstairs girls' bathroom. Initially, the only sound outside of the squeals that could be heard was the thundering of a crowd of Beauxbatons girls rushing away from the scene. Then, came a series of croaks and squelches as their feet collided with a magicked puddle of green, foggy mud.
The Gryffindor girls cringed instinctively, having been met with a horrid stench. They stepped back as soon as the girls ran past, doing their best not to gag at the onslaught of odors — the smells also mixed poorly with the Beaxbatons' perfumes.
Familiar laughs soon filled their ears, causing Y/N to turn around out of sheer embarrassment. It was one thing to be friends with one of the culprits, but it was an entirely different thing to be dating him.
She covered her face with her hands and leaned her forehead against the cool wall, shaking her head as Angelina and Alicia questioned the approaching boys. The girls' voices were heavy with exasperation as Fred and Lee took turns explaining what they had done.
While that happened, a pair of hands slid around Y/N'a waist, pulling her away from the wall. George had a laughter-filled smile and hid his face in the crook of her neck.
"Shouldn't you be used to this by now?" he asked. His breath hit her skin as he took a moment longer to breathe her in.
"When we were just friends, I could pretend I didn't know you," she grumbled, making him chuckle.
"No, you couldn't," he replied, standing up straight and spinning her to face him. "You helped with half of them."
"I've never pranked a girl," she pointed out.
He shrugged in response, unable to hide the grin plastered on his face. "We had a reason."
"Which was?"
"Ze lion house is much too rowdy," Lee mimicked, holding up a finger to mock them.
Angelina slapped his chest, causing him to break out into laughter. "They're right there!" she exclaimed.
"They're the ones who said it," Lee scoffed, still laughing at the interaction.
Y/N moved so that she could clearly see the others, resulting in George standing between her and the wall. He kept a light hand on her waist, smiling to himself when she leaned back against him.
"And you are rowdy," Angelina pointed out.
"We all are," Alicia laughed quietly. "Isn't that half the reason why we're in Gryffindor?"
George's fingers spread out over Y/N's stomach, bringing her closer into him. She did her best to ignore the quickening of her heart, but ultimately failed when he bent down to leave a kiss on her shoulder.
"At least we're not stuck up," Lee grumbled.
"We're literally the house of pride," Alicia pointed out.
"Let's leave," George murmured, barely giving Y/N time to register his words before loudly announcing, "Well, we'll see you all later!"
He quickly slipped his hand into hers and dragged them away before anyone could say something. It had been weeks of continuous interruptions, giving the two little to no time together and it was slowly getting to him.
Although George had always been the more patient twin, there was only so many disruptions he could take. It didn't help that he had years' worth of expectations about finally being able to have Y/N to himself.
"George!" Y/N laughed, being pulled into a slight run. "Slow down!"
"Nope," he shot back. "I can't give anyone any opportunity to speak to you."
